Vaping Tea
« on: December 21, 2011, 05:33:44 PM »
We've been having a discussion over at new-smoke about making a tea e-juice .. so tonite I tried it. Here are the results.

1. I took about 15-20ml (haven't measured it yet) of PG in a tiny saucepan, slowly heated it just to the point that it started vaporizing, then pulled off of the stove

2. Into the warm liquid, I please one Lipton Pyramid teabag (Bavarian Berry flavor, made of natural black tea to which was added real dried blackberry, blueberry and raspberry pieces) and let it steep in the liquid for about 15 minutes, swirling around a few times

3. I took my eye-dropper and pulled out a few drops of the liquid. I dripped 2-3 drops into an atty and

WOW!!!! Nice flavor (mostly the berries) and tons of vapor. No NIC, no VG, no nothing, just tea in PG

It may be by imagination, but I got a little buzz, kinda like you get from slugging down a big redbull ... guess it is an efficient caffeine delivery system LOL

Anyway, this stuff may just break me of my nic habit, how about that????

Anyone have a reason why I should NOT vape this concoction? I can't think of any.

Merry Christmas
Alan (call me BUZZ LIGHTYEAR) haha

Update .. it yielded 25ml of juice (and the teabag soaked up a little) .. so the original PG was more like 26-28ml ...

Good deal, 25ml of caffeine berry juice for practically nothing LOL

Sounds real good. Bet your house smelled real good too.
Not sure but see what happens to the atty after extend use to see if it has any effect on clogging it.
I can't think of any harm in vaping it.

Been vaping my tea juice all evening, very enjoyable (and I don't even miss the lack of nic).

A member of another forum told me about extracting coffee for vaping, so I am trying that right now. I am making my first batch of coffee extract, using Gevalia's Dark Chocolate Truffle. The procedure is as follows:

1. Fill a small container 1/2 full of your choice of ground coffee. I am using a 25ml Madvapes vial with screw lid.
2. Fill the container to the top with PG (or PG/VG combo if you wish I guess)
3. Microwave (no lid) for no more than 10 seconds then let sit a few minutes. Most/all of the PG will be absorbed by the coffee
4. Re-top off the container with more PG and cap it securely
5. Steep the mixture by floating the container in hot water for about 20 minutes, swishing it around a few times
6. Filter the resulting slurry thru a disposable coffee filter.

The resulting extract is used as flavoring for your e-juice. You can expect about a 50% loss due to the coffee absorbing much of the liquid, so I suspect I will get about 10-12ml of the finished extract.

There are differences in taste exactly how much to use in your DIY, somewhere between 5% and 15% seems correct. Start low, test, add more (a little at a time) until you get the flavor you desire.

Well, my extract is being filtered right now, very slow, should be done by tomorrow morning, then I will give it a try in a DIY batch.

Cool, huh?

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas

I did a coffee extract with Dunkin donuts french vanilla.... The end result was good, the juice was more like a sun tea color when mixed.  I made it for a co worker, the flavor started @ 5% then we upped it to 7% as right away the taste was a little weak. Low and behold like most juices you need to let this brew steep for a few days as at 7% 3 days later this juice was strong.

I wonder how a mint tea would work. I would like to make some sort of a menthol with 0mg nic. Any ideas?

I made a sleepy time and a country peach passion..... The sleepy time is a bit weird I think I need to thin it out a bit but not bad over all. The country peach is great very flavorful and mellow...... I dried and chopped a bunch of mint from the garden this year and will make a extract this way and will update on how that goes, I am just waiting on some pg to do so.

I'm interested to know how the fresh mint will turn out

Thank you so much for posting this.  I am a tea fanatic.  I can not drink coffee.

1. I took about 15-20ml (haven't measured it yet) of PG in a tiny saucepan, slowly heated it just to the point that it started vaporizing, then pulled off of the stove

There is the problem, a small enough saucepan.  And I would be concerned with scorching the VG.  I can not use PG.

I am thinking of using a waterbath trick used when heating food for a baby.  Standard saucepan with water to boil, with the baby food jar in the water.  That would work, but what is the temp that VG needs to vaporize?  Would such a bath be sufficient?  Anyone know?

Vegetable glycerin – melting point 18°C 64°F
 Vegetable glycerin – boiling point 290° C 554°F
 Vegetable glycerin – flash point 160°C 320°F

 Propylene glycol – melting point 59°C 138°F
 Propylene glycol – boiling point 188°C 370°F
 Propylene glycol – flash point 99°C 210°F

Nicotine alone has a flash point of 95°C or 203°F
Therefore, it seems to me that it would work fine with VG providing you keep the heat low. I am assuming that "flash point" is the temp that VG (or PG) vaporizes.

The double-boiler concept sounds good, keep the baby jar top lose so it doesn't build up pressure and you may have a winner. I would use an elec stove, not sure if the vapors are flammable. If you burn down you house, you're on your own.

Better yet, bring the temp of the water up, remove from stove, then drop in the jar of VG.

Anyone else out there with ideas????

Alan

If

"Vegetable glycerin – boiling point 290° C 554°F
Vegetable glycerin – flash point 160°C 320°F"

is true, then no good.  Boiling point of water is 100°C.  So it would never get hot enough to get to 290°C (boiling) or 160°C (flash).

But I do not think it is, I think the correct temp we need is the 290°C, as I have a fuzzy memory of chemistry and something called double point and triple point.

Now I can't swear to those numbers, that's just from one source. Nevertheless, you can make "sun tea" with cold water in a jar, sitting out in the summer sun, so I don't think boiling has much to do with it, perhaps just steeping for a week or two in a shady spot should do it. Watchagottolose but a little VG (cheap) and a teabag or 2. I think I will give it a try.

Incidentally, my last experiment was forgotten in my kitchen "under construction" LOL .. I am not sure, after steeping for 7-8 weeks, that I will even try it, think I will just flush it and start over.
