Parts list
« on: May 23, 2014, 05:23:49 PM »
I am having trouble finding a list of parts I need to build my device. So, I will give a list of what I have and what I know I need.
What I have:
1. DNA30 chip
2. Switch (Fire button)
3. Wire (i think)

What I know I need:
1. 510 connection
2. Battery connections
3. Tactile switches
4. The box to hold everything

From there I am lost. I've been reading up on here about fuses, but I'm just more confused. I am going to be using Parallel 26650's if that makes any difference in supplies. I appreciate all advice and help.

1) FatDaddy modders connector
2) Keystone battery sled (order online from Mouser)
3) Again order online from Mouser (200g or close tactiles are best)
4) Fasttech has some great mod enclosures, search on power banks or enclosures.

Fuses can be confusing, but fortunately there's no difference in using them for parallel 18650s or 26650s.  For parallel cells, the best thing to do is use a fuse on each cell.  That way you have protection from excessive equalization currents if you happen to insert cells with a large charge mismatch.  Just one fuse on each cell is fine.  I would recommend not using more than 2 fuses in total for any application since there are derating issues that come into play when using more than 2 fuses in parallel.

The DNA 30 has a maximal input draw of 12 Amps.  Since the load is split between the cells, each cell has to provide 6A so you would use a fuse with a 6A hold rating.  Though, you can go a bit lower than that if you need to.  PTC fuses have a hold rating and a trip rating.  The trip rating is usually about double the hold rating.  You can go about halfway between the two if you need to so you can use fuses with as low as a 4A hold rating.

Would this work http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Keystone-Electronics/5223/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsQtlBhqKq43fgKY2i8FEUt for battery contacts?

Those are spring contacts.  You want to avoid springs in your battery holder because they introduce a lot of resistance.  I don't have a recommendation for you since I always use hardwired non-removable cells to avoid the added resistance.  Maybe someone else can provide a good part for you.

And this fuse http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Littelfuse/0437005WR/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMv9NFGNGF1lwhLcILbiwX1X ?

Those are not PTC fuses.  They are fast acting fuses which means once they blow, they have to be replaced.  PTC fuses are resetable which means they return to their normal low impedance state once the fault condition has been eliminated.  Here's where to look;

Just a few more questions:

Mamu uses the 5223 she says they are the better best of battery contacts.
Bap measured there IR they came out as the best in his test.
If you can use their sled its a really good sled.  Bestest

So, I have almost everything in, waiting for the UPS fairy to deliver my fuses and battery connections, and all that is missing is an enclosure/box. I looked at fasttech but didn't see any that interested me. Any other website or company that carries something?

I am looking for a blank box (nothing pre-drilled) that can handle 2 26650's.

Eidt: I found a website www.enclosurehub.com. As well as Hammond's website, and a local retailer. I'll be going to them to check out a box for size and construction.

These are the contacts I bought from Mouser. On the website it said they were for 'C' batteries. I hope the pictures help show size, but they appear closer to a 'AAA' battery than a 'C'. Would these still work or do I need to get bigger contacts?
