Vamo Box Mod
« on: August 23, 2014, 05:55:07 PM »
So this is my second attempt at this, and I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

Got the "vomo" board from fasttech, a project box, a battery holder, some switches and presto.

I added a 2s balance charger connector so I can charge the 2 batteries (in series) without opening the box. Works great!

I removed the firing and menu buttons and moved/replaced them with better buttons.

Made a 2.0 ohm coil in my helios just to test.

Here's some pics:

LOL

yah, I should really let my girlfriend do these things. She's a carver. But I'm impatient, and it's just a vamo build, so who cares...

I'm going to build some 20A arduino mods next, these vamo builds are just practice.

The 510 connector worked out awesome. It's solid as he.... I took a cheap fasttech 510 connector (the one with the threaded ring), and then soldered the center pin, discarded their grommet, heat-shrunk the pin, then used a protank grommet instead. Then I screwed the connector to a piece of metal for the ground, and a piece of plastic and glue to hold it all together.

Well done  :rockin smiley:
The 510 connector sounds like a good idea.

We'll see how well it holds up. I'm hooked on my mech & dripper these days, but I'm giving these mods to my friend, who is using it as his ADV. The last one I made using a pre-wired madvapes 510 didn't hold up at all. If this one can survive a month with him, it's good :)

The stupid vamo board likes to shut off every once and a while, and nothing will wake it up. Have to take out a battery and put it back in again for it to come back to life. I guess that's what you get for a $10 board I guess.

I've read some posts that others have had problems with the vamo shutting down. Complaints of shut downs range from poor battery contacts to menu accidental on/off selection.

I occasionally get the shut down on my ZMax board. When holding the fire button, sometimes it goes into menu selection and can put the board in the OFF mode. Next time you get the shut down, try to access your on/off mode with 5 clicks.

Yah, some googling shows a lot of people having similar issues with the vamos.

In my case, no amount of clicking on any buttons will wake it up. Need to Remove a battery, then 5 clicks will turn it on again.
