What tools are you guys using?
« on: September 25, 2014, 11:51:33 AM »
Hey guys, I looked around and couldn't find a topic on what tools everyone is using, so I figured I would start my first thread. Just curious what tools and procedures is everyone using to make their cut outs for 510's and other various connections. Looks like a lot of mods on here are aluminum and plastic maybe? Wheres the wood at guys???  :laughing2:

Drill and drill bits
Dremel w/ cutting wheel and routing bits
Small files for squaring up edges

I use TiNi coated step bits for the switch, pot, and 510 holes. They arent necessary for the 510 hole or even the pot though.  Regular TiNi bits for other holes such as the on-off-on external pushbutton, etc.
Then I use small 1/16" bits to drill around the square for the voltmeter, punch the center out to get the rough square and it's all files and patience there.
I used to try to use cutting wheels on a dremel to assist in the voltmeter cut but I found out real quick that doesnt work well for me. I get much better results with just the drill press and files.

Thanks guys. I'm just trying to get some ideas on tearing into my Hammond when it gets here. I'm wanting to do a wood box as well but I was thinking wood would be a little more forgiving to work with.

Hi, I use these lathes for making the parts for my mods. Plus a dimensional circular saw, bench drill, and hand tools.
