I will not sell you mine.  Sorry.  It is home built, using a turn-of-the-century Hasluck book.  I would not recommend you try that, even though the Hasluck books are excellent.

If I had to do it again, and on the real cheap, I would visit the Lindsay books site, and see what Gingery did.  Good bang for buck on the books there.  lindsaybks.com.

It would help if we had an idea of what you are wanting to use it for.  I assume (ass-u-me) that you are wanting to turn something for a ecig mod.  If that is the case, and you have a woodworking store nearby, ask if any turners take in work.  A *LOT* of the pen turners do not use wood lathes, but metal ones, so they can carve anything.  To be honest, my lathe is crude, which is why I will not sell it.  I have had other turners make things in metals, ivory, bone, wood, plastics, stone...  Well, you get the idea.  It just was not cost effective to me to bugger my own.

On a similar note, I have seen second and third hand 'jewelers' lathes on craigslist, or ebay.  Again, what are you wanting to do?  That Harbor Freight is a good price, but I doubt a good unit.

I've bought a few power tools from these guys.  They seem to have pretty good deals on machine tools.

I would probably avoid the combo lathe/mills. They sound great in theory but take forever to setup and switch from one to the other and have a habit of more breakdowns. The only combo I would buy would be like a Smithy or something of that caliber but would rather have to mini desktop models unless space is a real issue.

Thanks for the info. Don't have much room so a desktop would be sensible.

That's a good looking machine.  I'm sure I could find some things to do with that.

New York state.  You probably are not far from a Harbor Freight.  They may not be the best in the world, but that little bench top lathe they have looks like it might be pretty good.  You won't hold +/- .0003 with it, but + .010, - 003 should be possible.

Any one selling a used Bench Top Metal Lathe?

Was in Harbor Freight this afternoon and they have a 7 x 10" bench lathe for $499.00.  That is new and complete.  Plug in and play.

Thanks Eric. I have looked at harbor freight before. Right now my interest in a lathe is on hold.

In the business section of sundays paper check out business auction, loads of companies auctioning off lathes, mills, etc.  I have seen a 10k lathe go for 300..  Gotta watch the sundays paper..  Its truly common theres one auction today started at 10am

Metal shop auction:

Technical Metal Specialties Inc
Gerlachauctions.com

Whoops the auction is tomorrow I thought today was wednesday lol

Problem would be where to put the damn thing.  Those professional machine tools are huge.  If a tool doesn't fit on top of my workbench, I have nowhere to put it.

I have the HF lathe and used the guts out of it. It definitely has its disadvantages and limitations sometimes, but with a little creativity at times it works pretty good.

This is the lathe I will upgrade to eventually http://www.dropros.com/DRO_PROS_Sieg_SC8_Lathe.htm
