Arizona - Multiply by percentage in decimal
« on: January 23, 2011, 07:30:05 PM »
For Arizona, you have a column called "Multiply by percentage in decimal" under biweekly state tax.

What do you mean by that?

What are we multiplying by percentage in decimal?

A standard figure in Arizona is 2.7% (this is of Federal Gross pay). That figure in decimal is 0.027. Your default is 0.27. Am I making a math error or in some other way missing what you want here?

thanks,
Tom

In the sample I use 27% (0.27) which was one of last years percentage elections, you can enter your elected percentage.

I asked this:

"What are we multiplying by percentage in decimal?"

because Arizona changed, last year, from a percentage of FEDERAL withholdings, to this year, a percentage of GROSS pay.

Totally different things.

And indeed, I just checked what your software does - you are using the old system.

Will you be updating your software to current Arizona law any time soon?

thanks,
Tom

Arizona State Tax change for 2011

Payroll 2011 version 11.4.0 has just been released. The updated tax rate has been included. See the sample at: http://www.breaktru.com/arizona.html

The Arizona Percentage Election and Instructions can be viewed at: http://www.azdor.gov/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=nPHLtG7R1YY%3d&tabid=265&mid=921

Arizona income tax withholding is a percentage of the employee's gross taxable wages and is no longer a percentage of the Federal deduction as in previous versions of Payroll 2011.

After installing the new version, open the employee file, State Tax form and check that the Minimum Range box is set to 0 (zero). Use your percentage selection as shown in the links above. Do this for each employee and “Save”.
