Reflow soldering on the cheap
« on: August 31, 2012, 05:49:36 PM »
Well today in the local supermarket I stumbled across a 900W toaster oven. ( http://tinyurl.com/8m89f3o )
The price £19.99 (about $31) so yes I bought it purely for doing the solder reflow on the boards.

So, not long now and I'll have a bit of a report back to say how it went and how easy or hard it is to get right.
Going on some of the tutorial vids I've watched it should be a doddle as it has it's own timer and selectable top, bottom or both heater elements.

Watch this space for either massive success or epic failure  :laughing2:

I did some reflow in a frying pan once, well it was re-reflow.  I fried a chip with a thermal pad I hand soldered and the only way to remove it was to heat up the whole board.  Kind of funny though, wife says, "watcha cooking."   I said, "mmm, fried circuit boards, yummy."
