cheap metal lathe
« on: June 17, 2013, 09:30:50 AM »
Does anyone have a dirt cheap (and I do mean dirt) metal lathe that they would part with? Maybe you don't use it anymore and it has cobwebs on it somewhere in you garage? Here's the deal. I have $50.00 a month that I can use for whatever I want. This next month I'm going to use the money to buy the things I need to start on my first mod. The month after that I will start over again. I figure this upcoming month will allow me to buy enough copper to do two or three mods. So that will surely leave the month after that free to use on other stuff. If there's a way to make small monthly payments on it, that would be a great way to go. Maybe I could make you a couple of mods to pay for it (or help pay for it)

This may be asking for the impossible, but you'll never know unless you ask :) I've look at some DIY metal lathes on YouTube and they would be almost almost expensive than just buying one outright. I'm only looking for something small to use on tube mods.

And on another wave length... If anyone knows how to build a dirt cheap metal lathe, that would be great too.

extra info... I'm looking for a "mini" lathe to use on mods

Sorry, I should have searched first. I should have known that this question had already been asked  :wallbash:

Guess my lathe will be the Sharpie marker, lol

Late to the part but I just ordered this one

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006ZB9W6Q/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Now need to figure out the dimensions for the end cap to fit the tubes I will be turning.

Posted in the other tread....

I have the HF lathe and use the guts out of it. It definitely has its disadvantages and limitations sometimes, but with a little creativity at times it works pretty good.

This is the lathe I will upgrade to eventually http://www.dropros.com/DRO_PROS_Sieg_SC8_Lathe.htm

Nice Bap. The big boys toys

Actually I think its still considered a "bench"  lathe  :laughing2:

I have contemplated getting a Smithy but can't justify the expense. The SC8 is the smallest lathe I have found with a quick change gearbox. Other attractive features are.....the DC motor (so you have easy adjustable speed), separate lead screw and drive shaft, power cross feed
