Mod components from disposables
« on: January 26, 2012, 01:32:54 PM »
As I posted earlier, I am a pipe smoker, and pipe maker.  I am thinking of converting some of my pipes.

I have several 'disposable' ecigs, to include ones that are rechargeable.

Can someone tell me what the specs are (atty, battery pack, autosence pcboard) on the '21st Century', and the 'Quikecig'?

The 21st are available from Rite Aid pharmacies.  The Quik from Sheets gas stations.  Common, cheap, and growing in demand, so I suspect others will be asking these questions.

These two look to me as the same atty and battery, even though the threads are not compatible between the two types.

The 21st has a web site, but no details.  The Quik's site is not up.

I have not broken open a batt pack to see any markings.  I see none on any atty.

Note: the Quik does not come with a recharger, but do take a recharge.  I do not intend to use their bat pack until I get a spec.  Safety.

Any pointers?

I don't know the specs at all on any of the disposables, I've never bought one or ever felt the need.  Not really sure why you would care.  I can't think of anything you would want to salvage from one.  Maybe the battery, but for e-pipe building, you'll probably want to use a 16340 or 18350 cell which you can buy over-the-counter.

If you're just looking for parts, I think MadVapes is the closest thing I've found to a one-stop shop for modding.  For electronics components like power modules, chips, resistors, etc, there are some really good online electronics shops you can go to.  I use Mouser a lot, but Digikey and Newark are also good.   Mouser has the best catalog search tool.  Newark usually has the lowest prices.  Digikey has the most stock.

Thanks for the reply and opinions, CraigHB.

I will research more.  Perhaps you can post the links for other newbes?  I found two of your three.

Why did I buy disposables?  I am a pipe person.  Believe it or not, restrictions on us are greater than on cigarette users.  Most cigs to me are simply too weak.  I got caught 'short' to many times, so I grabbed what was conveniently available.

Why do I care?  Well, looking in the 'junk' bin, I see over a dozen batteries and about a half dozen attys.  Why buy when I have?

Also, I think newbes would like to maintain what they have, but they can not with the lack of information.  These two brands I mentioned are actually good units.  And the price...  $5 for that quikecig.  $22 for the 21st.  I would LOVE to tank the 21st.

Well, thanks again.
