Vamo bites the dust

I learned an expensive lesson last weekend. If you have your mod in your open shirt pocket, do not lean over to move a branch from beside the riding lawnmower. When I finished the mowing and reached for a vape it was gone. I found the top portion, but the mower must have really slung the bottom, battery and tank. Good news is I removed the board and except for the display backlight it still works and will soon be installed in a small box mod. Must be a pretty tough board to survive that amount of acceleration and shock.

A bit of bad luck there but at least you managed to save the board.
I've just started to get into electronics for similar reasons. I've got 2 old box mods with broken buttons, voltage displays and 510 connectors. I was going to throw them away but then I came across this forum.
I've now got the bug.

Welcome to the forum Mandro. I look forward to seeing what you do with those mods. The Vamo board won't fit in a 2AA box, but I want something small and light, so time to go ebay shopping. Any suggestions are always very welcome. Dimensions are 4.5 cm long X 2 cm wide X 1.5 cm deep. Probably a 14500 battery.

Good luck on the new vamo box.  I searched around and found the vamo boards for $18 and bought a couple with the intention of making box mods out of them.  The first one is in the planning stages right now and will be in a wooden box (surprise surprise )

Wow... too bad about the Vamo. But like everyone said, at least the guts are working and you can have you another mod. I dropped my yesterday for the first time. About 4 feet in the air to the concrete driveway below. I was lucky though, it's still working. I almost had a heart attack!

The board was damaged worse than I thought, so I ordered a new board. It would not work with a single trustfire flame 14500, so I ended up using an 18650. Works well and easy to wire. Have not found a suitable box yet, just hooked up on a protoboard. I salvaged the old screen but the driver chip was damaged. Could not find out anything about the screen, no numbers on it and nothing on the web about what screen they use. Anybody know if these have a standard pinout and which kind of generic drivers might work?

Vamo Battery Specs:

Protected type Li-Ion batteries will not work in this device – the over current protection renders them unusable as they usually have a current limit of 2.5 Amperes and this device uses current higher than that figure.. Please use High drain Safe rated batteries with no on-board protection for optimum use of this device.
Recommended batteries are IMR / AW type cells

Thanks Breaktru. Might try these http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/251293352830?lpid=82. I don't know the brand though. I have been testing it with an AW IMR unprotected 18650. Otherwise I will get some AW IMR 14500s.

Unless your know the discharge amperage, I would wait to order these. You need more than 2.5A. The AW IMR 14500 is rated at 4A and so is the EH 14500 IMR batteries 600mAh

I also have an LCD screen from the Vamo, there are no numbers on it  and I have not been able to find out who makes it. Does anyone know the manufacturer or pinout for these screens?
