Parallel Trimmer ???? SMD resistors??/
« on: October 30, 2013, 06:59:05 PM »
Need assistance @500k trimmer putting a 130k resistor in parallel gives me 103174.603174ohms
will the trimmer still react linearly, is this an ok practice ?
is it ok @130k to go a bit below battery voltage?  Possibly 3.4-3.6v

if I used a 120k resistor in parallel it would be 96k and my voltage on a 4050 would be much higher than I like to vape some atty's..
-----------------------------------------

I was to try to make one module from scrap parts since I have a boatload of smd resistors from a computer motherboard etc...

They are rated at .01 watt,  the 4050 I measure open 5v @15k .00167 watt  are they ok to use?
With the load from an atomizer?

Or follow protocol and stop asking stupid questions.... Doh:

Putting a resistor across a trimmer would destroy the linearity of the pot. Been there. The voltage would jump in large segments.

Hacking the 04050C any further than what I have done w/ the 15k across Pin 3 and 4 and the 4.7k in series with the 100k trimmer may not get you where you want to go. Right now with that setup you should get approximately 3.79v to 6.1v give or take a bit depending on the resistor tolerance value. I try to use a 1% tolerance when I can get them.

You can increase the value a bit for the 4.7k It will give you a lower Hi and low end voltage output.
Possible increasing the value a bit for the 100K and leaving the 4.7k can give you a lower Low end voltage while keeping the high end to 6.1v
You can't go too high in value for the pot as it will have no effect past a certain point. An example of that would be say you find that when you are at 3/4 of the dial and the last quarter has no effect in output voltage. You now only have a 3/4 range to adjust voltage and fine tuning would not be so good as having a full range on the dial.

Resistor rating: Minimum wattage for the Adjust portion should be no less than 0.10 watt. Don't use the 0.01 watt resistor.
Between Pin 3 & 4 don't use less than 1/8 watt (0.125) a 1/4 watt would be safer (0.250)

Thanks Break

That would have been so sweet,  use around the house items was legit///
