Title: 12V-Accumulator-Sound-Light-Alarm-Buzzer-Prevent-Over-Discharge
Post by: memoevapor on May 20, 2014, 10:16:40 PM
OK, so I was browsing EBay and came across this over discharge board    here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-Accumulator-Sound-Light-Alarm-Buzzer-Prevent-Over-Discharge-Controller-/121331847107?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c3ff10fc3).....any thoughts on modifying it to 6 volt? I have tried to find a data sheet for the LM358 chip but have not yet found this exact chip. scared:

Ask the seller if he has a data sheet or schematic.  If so, you may be able to modify the circuit given the required information.

The LM358 is an op-amp which is a general purpose part used in a vast number or applications.  The data sheet alone for that part will not help you, have to see how it's applied by looking at a schematic or functional diagram.

Thanks Craig, I will see if I can get the information.

An audible warning may be annoying unless you put in an off switch or charge it right away

Still waiting to see if the seller has a data sheet or schematic.....

You are right Poppy26
An audible warning may be annoying unless you put in an off switch or charge it right away
..I have been considering options to either mute or shut off the sound.

There is a potentiometer on the board...not sure if it for sound or not....sure hope the seller knows how I can get a diagram!

I would like to say that I am a firm believer in the Low Battery Indicators in this forum!

This is just a project for me to tinker with in between mod builds.

After contacting the seller, I was checking their store and found a 9V version using the same LM358 chip Here (http://www.ebay.com/itm/400702815140?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT).

Is there a way to re-Title the subject to "Tinkering with a 9V Accumulator Sound Light Alarm Buzzer Prevent Over Discharge" ????
 ;)

Just set it up so it's only powered when the atomizer is powered.  That way you get a sound only when you trigger the atomizer with a low battery.  That's actually better than a light.  On my own mods, my trigger light changes from green to red when the battery is below 10%.  I don't often notice it, but I don't have to since I have a cut-out.

With only a light to serve as a warning, you could easily miss it and over-discharge your cells which is something you really have to avoid.  Li-Ion cells get heavily damaged when taken below the minimum allowable limit.  It's actually bad for any battery to discharge it below a certain voltage level, but it's especially bad for Li-Ion cells.

Update:
Seller doesn't have or won't share a diagram for this.
I will go ahead and get a couple of the 9 volt ones to tinker with.  Thanks for the info Craig!  I like the idea of wiring this to be powered by the switch.

i have been looking at the same type of battery warning in a mod i designing......as am considering a RC lipo.....i wonder if THIS item would be what your looking for...?
..and the price is comparable, and the voltage warning is settable by user?....is this a good item do you think?

i know it says 2-8s....but would it not work for single cell ?

 Interesting to be sure, SilenTDoGz.

This is what I truly love about my unexpected new hobby. I have built 5 FPU (For Personal Use) mods and now I just vape and tinker with new ideas. Spend ALOT of time reading the wonderful posts on this forum and getting new ideas. Thanks to everyone one and all.

SilenTDoGz, I will probably get one of these to tinker with. Both yours and the one I have posted will have a fairly large footprint in a build......but hey I'm just tinkering so let the fun begin!
