Title: Opinions on IRLB3813PBF Mosfet
Post by: Emex on April 09, 2015, 12:34:16 PM
After a few late nights adding a bunch of stuff to my Mouser cart I must have confused myself and ordered 10 MOSFET I only intended to order one and test out...

Originally I wanted to get a few more of these instead.

Just curious if anyone else has experience using these?

I tested them last night with a 3 amp load (LEDs), thermometer, DMM, and a variable resistor to control the gate voltage and found it didn't really get HOT until I went lower than 3v DC on the gate.

I'm guessing its still not ideal test as I was only drawing 3 amps though it... would trying to draw more power generate more heat with a 3v gate voltage?

Page 6, Fig 12. RDS ON (on state resistance) really takes a dive below 4v. At 3v RDS ON is off the chart. As temp increases, you can see it performs even worse. Based on that chart, that mosfet looks like it would be suitable for a series battery mod but not parallel.

For some reason I was focused on the bottom lower temp resistance curve when I bought them...  its painfully obvious now after studying the Fig 12 with regards to temp / resistance.

Thanks for the reply...  ill just keep these around for different projects for when I can deliver a higher gate voltage...

Check this out has a charge pump that would bring the voltage to the gate to around 12-16v and also has low voltage cutoff at 3v

Oooo geez, even more parts  freaked_out:

I actually made a note of a DIFFERENT charge pump which you also mentioned on the forum... I belive its the same as the one you use on the QuadParaMos-GD design, but with through-hole mounting.

I have the below one in my Mouser saved BOM as an item I want to test.

Is there a reason to use one over the other, aside for just low voltage protection?
