Title: Syringe Blunt Tip Color Code
Post by: Breaktru on October 18, 2011, 09:47:07 AM
The lower the gauge number the wider the needle.
Wide gauge tips are good for thicker liquids such as VG and high ratio VG based liquids
The higher numbers are good for PG and high ratio PG based liquids.
I use a 14 gauge and a 17 gauge blunt tip.

Wide, Good for thick VG

I've been using the plastic ones like this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dispensing-Needle-18-ga-0-035id-x-1-25-Tip-Green-50-pc-/350260373863?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item518d252967).  They're not always easy to find, but "dispensing tip" is usually a good search phrase.

I have a few of those tips on hand and they are pretty good.
I like using the long blunts to reach down to the bottom of the bottle when the bottle is low.

Is there one site that has all the different gauge and length blunt needles?  So far I've found a site that has maybe two sizes, then another with a few other sizes, and so on.  I'd like to order from one place to save on shipping.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..... TIA..... horton

You actually only need perhaps two sizes horton,
a wide gauge (14ga) for thick liquid and a narrower (18ga) for a thinner liquid.

Good point on sizes.  I'm wanting to have several syringes at the ready all the time, hence my curiosity.
I had a funny experience at the pharmacy the other day.... I asked the young pharmacist if he carried "dispensing needles" and you should have seen the blank look I received.  I think this young lad is of the high tech pharmacy class of 2011 where they use only machines to dispense liquids  with....lol.
Thanks for your reply and sites to check out...... horton

I tried a few different sizes and have settled in on the 18ga ones.   This is strictly for refilling the Boge cartomizers I use though.  I fill them with a syringe only at home.  When I'm out, I just drip into them.  I vape a high VG mix, but I thin it to PG consistency so I don't need a lower gauge than that.

Dispensing tips are not that common for syringes, but other than handling juice, they're really good for applying glue like when building things out of Plexiglass or Lexan sheet.  Places that sell hardware or crafts carry them more commonly than anyone else.

I use to buy my 100mg Nic in 100% VG than switched to 50/50. Now I buy it in 100% PG so I use a lot of PURE VG in my recipes which is like glue. I use the 14ga blunt and wish it wash 10ga, the stuff is so thick and slow to draw. (not particular keen on diluting the VG).

Thanks for the info.  I really appreciate it!!
Out of curiosity, Craig, what do you dilute your VG with to get to a PG consistency?  Trying to get 100% VG through an 18 ga needle would be like trying to drink gear lube through a straw for me.....lol.  Could you also describe your method for filling the cartos?  I've always dripped them, but I've been interested in trying a syringe, but never did get the "drift" as to the best way.
I also get my nic sol'n  in the 100% PG and dilute with VG.   It has always been easier for me to do it that way.
Thanks again for the help......

I thin my VG with Everclear 151 (I'd try Everclear 190, but it's not available in my state).  I use 2 parts Everclear and 13 parts VG.  The overall mix is 40% PG and 60% diluted VG.  I've also tried thinning with water but I like the vapes better with alcohol.  High VG mixes tend to feel heavy or greasy.  The alcohol eliminates that.  It also adds a little bit of kick and a slight improvement in flavor.  Water doesn't really do much other than thin the mix.

I actually pour my ingredients into a graduaded bottle so the only thing I use the syringe for other than filling the cartos is to add 2ml of Everclear to the mix.  I make 25ml batches by simply pouring ingredients into a 30ml boston glass bottle to graduations I marked on it with narrow bag tie tape.  It's a really quick way to mix.  Photo below.

I also buy my nic base in PG.  At one point, I tried using 100mg nic base for mixing, but found the 50mg base easier to work with.  Since I typically vape 10mg anyway, the 50mg base works out fine for me.  Though, I've been known to vape my nic base straight on occasion.  I keep a carto loaded with it on-hand for when I'm in a situation where I can't vape much and want my nic fix, like when flying or in a theater.  One caveat with that, you have to be carfeful not to overfill.  If you get much 50mg juice in your mouth, you'll be flying on a nic buzz pretty quick.  I actually did that the other night and just about went into orbit.  I swallowed a pretty big amount, probably 5 drops.  Can't be careless with that stuff.

Below is a photo showing how I use a syringe to fill my cartos.  That's a toothpick in the other end to keep the juice from just squirting out the air hole that runs down the middle.  The photo shows a blue tip, but I use the green tips now.  Though, Boge cartos have a much larger hole at the connector than others.  That's one thing that gives them their light or airy draw and one of the reasons they are my favorite.  I like a real loose draw, the looser the better.  They're also one of the few you can fill from the battery end because of the slotted airflow configuration.  The SmokeTech cartos are similar I believe.

If you are having trouble finding 20ga and larger, contact some of the ink-jet printer refilling companies on the web.  That is how I built up my 'stock' of needles, some for refilling inkjet, some for other uses.

Now, is there any juice that can work through a diabetics 30 guage 1/2 cc?  I have LOADS of those...   :laughing2:

More VG = More Vapor
More PG = More Throat Hit

Breaktru, I just had a wild thought.  Being a type one diabetic, I have access to insulin vials.  Some are crimptop, some are pop-top, and some are screw top, and all have the rubber barrier.  I could not use the crimptop, but the others I can open and clean, reseal, and syringe from.  Hmmm...  I could use a 14ga or 16ga.  but is there a juice that one can use with a 30 guage, or are all too thick/granular?

I received a newsletter the other day with the pierce-able rubber bottle top for sticking a syringe through. Don't remember from who.
30ga is very thin. You would have to try it on 100% PG and if it works, look for eJuice that is mostly PG.

Thank you, Breaktru

I have a ejuice on order, pure VG with a high nicotine.  The 1.6 in a disposible cig seems weak to me, but then I am a pipe smoker & carver.  Was?  I am researching a epipe now.

I am going over to that site after posting this.  I don't think I will need caps, but certainly some other folks will.

Thanks again.

That's a great idea avoiding getting liquids from contacting your skin.
Probably won't work with thick stuff though.

Vapormaster,

Depends on the quality of the syringe and needle in regards to the psi.  I have some VERY thick inkjet ink I put through 30ga 1/2in disposable diabetic syringes.  With friction fit inkjet applicator syringes, like the ones Breaktru is showing, the tip can and will 'blow off'.  Slow, I will admit, but better than having a mess.  And considering that nicotine is a poison...

For those of you looking for a bulk supplier I found this site..... I got a few 3" and 2" to reach down into the bottoms of things. I use them to extract the juice from my clearomizers when they need cleaning and or filling.

:thankyou: for the link. Good source. I like the 14-gauge, 3" needle but buying 50 is a bit much.

When mixing eJuice I use the 14ga, 3" needle but when refilling my RBA I use the 22-Gauge Taper Tip as shown in the attached photos.
I insert the tip into the bottle tip and squeeze the bottle as I am pulling back on the syringe plunger. No mess, drips and find it fast and easy.
