Hi all.
Here is my first mod build over the PTR08100W from TI (free sample 8) ), with 2 http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__7649__ZIPPY_850mAh_20C_single_cell_.html (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__7649__ZIPPY_850mAh_20C_single_cell_.html) i series.
I did not have succes in using a digital pot so i setteled with a normal 200 ohm 10 turn trimmer (have to use a screwdriver when i adjust voltage).

Is that aluminum polished to a mirror finish?
Did you press in the top piece? How did you wire in the atty and the switch that way.
What about the bottom piece. Is it removable?

Did you hand file the bevels? Did you Chrome plate it?

Yes loads of hard work. Worst was to get the parts inside as i only got opening at the ends and that damn 1s6s was sitting right in there and made it impossible to fit it all in from one end but had to make long wires that take up room and then push all in from bothsides.
And yes it is all done by hand only power tool i used was my old bosh drill.
End plates are removeable they are angled down and got a screw, but are grinded to a very tight fit, had to tap them a bit to get them in.
Switch for atty, i made an normally ON momentarely OFF switch "MacGyver style" of an old ballpen 8). used on the inhibit pin.
For the finish i used 320 grit paper to get a some how clean surface then some scotch brite and last i used, i dint know what it is called in english, http://www.slojd-detaljer.dk/product.aspx?productid=2261 on my drilling mashine.
I made my own 510 atty connector with a 7M 0.5 tap and dye, it aren't working to good so i am waiting on some pre made from madvapes, when they come it will be taken appart for some minor adjustments. I put the atty switch on top to minimize the accidental firring atty but i dint like to vape when it is a that position so maybee i can fit a new pot i got at that place and put the switch where the hole are for the pot now. But i will take some pics of the disassemble when that times comes.

Fantastic, Hard work paid off big time.
So it's aluminum polished to a chrome like finish. That's lots of shinning. I have a couple of non-chrome parts (aluminum) on my motorcycle that I polish to a chrome like finish. Lots of work and unfortunately it doesn't last that long.
The 510 connector that you made looks real good. Bet it's much better than the Madvape one.

The connector i made from some brass pipe i had laying around, think it is to soft metal because the threads are allmost worn out after couple of uses. :wallbash:

The ones you buy are usually plated brass, probably not a whole lot tougher than the one you made. I had a machine shop make some out of stainless steel for my own mods. It was expensive, but the connectors should hold up for the duration.

Made a rebuild.
Added a usb charge board.
Changed the 2 100uF electrolytes to 2 smaller tantalum smd caps
Put in a old floppy drive connector for the lipos.
First picture is the old guts got loads of wire had to rethink that and decided to go for a smaller gauge in more flexible silicone 14awg wire.
Second pic. the breakout charge board, found a old piece of plastic insulation board from a old TV i slaughtered and build it all on it so i was able to just slide it inside the box when finished.
Third pic. Everything ready to get pushed inside the box, only thing not in the picture is a little Plexiglas window that fits the display hole, worked on that for allmost 2 hours before i was satisfied with the fit.
Fourth pic. smashed on an old tornado atty put it at 3.7 and it worked like a charm.
Fifth pic view of the side i got a 3pt switch 3 position the charge port.
Sixth pic. chargin in acction blue charging red done only set it to charge at 500 milli amp.
Just wish i had some more of those PTR08100W. Allready thinking on next project got a 20c 2200 turnigy to pair up with a PTN04050CAZ but that wont be for low resistance attys as it will only be able to go up in voltage :(.

So shiny!!! Absolutely love it!
Done plenty of polishing on engines and that looks like a great job. I'd be scared to handle it without gloves on in case I spoil it :)

Hard to say as i did it all in stages over weeks as i came by the parts that it had to fit and with limited tools (old and worn), but i think accumulated 4 hours and a ton of elbow grease.

Love the ingenuity of modders, everything they see has potential for a mod. Reminds me of my days on submarines, I dont know how we managed some of the repairs we did with the total lack of parts but somehow it worked.
