Title: meter readings with charger problems
Post by: lazydog on September 16, 2012, 11:02:29 AM
Hoping someone can explain to me why if I the little voltage lcd's to read battery voltage via a 3 way switch,on a mod using 2x 18650 in series it reads 5.00V and then 4.95V but the batterys only reads 4.00 each on a multimeter.
This is using a OKR board and this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260924816985?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I am using this circuit

+ and - are connected to the charging board as shown here

even without the charger pluged in it only reads the same

First make sure your Dig meter is a 1S-6S and that you connected the pins correctly. With the meter facing down, the NEG pin is the first pin on your right and you are using ONLY the next pin to the left for your POS connection.

Second make sure that POS meter pin is connected to the wire/wires off of your charger "B+" and not "COM" or "B-" for full series battery reading. Also the Neg to the Meter should be on "B-" not "COM".

The switch is not a 3 way but a TWO position switch. One way will show battery voltage and the other way will show OKR output voltage with the fire button pressed.

Cheers I know now the problem my neg wire for meter is output neg on the charging board, but if I move it wont that throw the atty voltage reading out when in the other position and yes you are right it is 2 position switch not 3 my mistake(its an age thing!)

The reading for your battery voltage and Output voltage are determined by the POS leads. The negative  is common with both so make sure it's on the bottom negative of both batteries in series which is "B-"
