Title: Flavour Encyclopedia
Post by: Ash on July 26, 2013, 04:04:52 AM
Hi all

After a very brief trial, this is a spreadsheet I have started and am hosting. It's an open collaboration attempting to chart flavours that we have used, what we think of them, how we use them.

If anyone wants to contribute, please post away.  Entries in the spreadsheet are categorised by brand and a flavour group and also identifying who contributed it.

If there is already an entry for a flavour that you use, don't worry duplicate entries are allowed ... please post your own line ... all our tastebuds differ and there is not one prescriptive, definitive answer. If anything this may start to create some trends on the most popular concentrates.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoqwBuy5Wr89dF9JTTA3VTVGdTR4UkZGTnhiZV9NV3c#gid=0

You can either leave feedback/comments on this thread or add to the relevant sheet in the document.

Enjoy !

PS: Apologies for the additional 'u' in Flavour :)

:rockin smiley: I think it is a fabulous contribution. Thanks for sharing @Ash  :applaude:

There are times when I use multiple flavors in one recipe and the flavor percentage will lessen depending on how many flavors I use.
If using 1 flavor it can vary from 15 to 20%. 2 flavors can be 7 to 10% each, 3 flavors can be 5 to 7% each and so on. What to do? I see you have a yes/no for stand alone.

I don't think there are any definitive answers ... for example I find most FA tobacco's far too weak and mix at + 10% whilst most people recommend 2% ... go figure

This won't replace self-mixing or finding what suits us individually ... hopefully it may give people an idea of how others use some flavours

I LOVE that someone has done this so that all vapers can add their '2cents' worth!!!!
I think this is an AWESOME undertaking!  and love the other columns that have been added, esp. the suggested % amts !!
[I moved my suggestions from here, over to the Google Spreadsheet/Comments page]

ARGH!!  I just found this on the spreadsheet's INFO: "Please post any suggestions for improvement/changes on the Comment Sheet" - I will 'move' what I've mentioned above over to the Comment Sheet - but don't see a 'delete post' for these of mine, here ??   feel free to eliminate my posts here, if you see fit.  NancyB
['mission accomplished' from this end! NB]

I have been having fun 'sharing' with others today, what you're trying to accomplish over on Google - and - reading everyone's posts/lines on the "Flavour Encyclopedia" - what a great start!  Now to add my own 'favorites' soon.  I am continually amazed at the talents of folks and how each one shares and adds to the knowledge base that all of us can learn from - wow!  it is just awesome!  Thank you to everyone (and Ash)  :)  NancyB

Meant to also add my 'kudos/thanks/thumbs up' to Breaktru for his work on 'e-juice me up' calculator - after trying my 68 yr old math skills (some not used in many years!) on my first e-juice batches, asking questions on ECF, 'adjusting' my %s (many times/dif. flavors) and figuring the mls, wondering how to figure the nic after the adjusting, etc.,  Breaktru, finding your program definitely has saved my sanity!!  haha   You truly have a big talent that is deserving of a big gold star!!  (perhaps a 'smiley' will do?)  ;bow;   the simple word "thanks" just doesn't seem to cover it in my mind.... what a life saver! your program simply makes our mixing 'a snap' !!

This is so great! It will be my first go-to before even ordering a flavor! Just a thought, how about adding a column or note about a flavor containing acetoin or acetyl propionyl -- I know I'm being overly cautious. Should I just assume any vanilla or custard or butter may have one or both of those? I appreciate the tank cracker column, the quick reminder. Would love to see this grow.

Thank you for all the effort  :rockin smiley:

Again,.thanks for the feedback. I'm not updating this nearly as much as I should. I agree on the acetoin etc column. I'm very interested in provenance of flavours at the moment. I specifically avoided including Natures Flavors and am having second thougts about Lorann due to colorings. Also recently found out that TPA FVD has acetoin in despite the fact it is really popular in the UK and no vendors advertise this fact. Not a criticism of TPA who I think are the one vendor who do care about the fact vapers are using their products.

Best to always check with manufacturers. TPA do safe vanilla. Capellas are diacetyl free but do not make acetoin etc claims. Believe F'arts are generally safe but I think their butter has diacetyl in it as well as their condensed milk.

Actually adding the suspect ones may be good for awareness

I was working on my own list for TFA/TPA cuz I like to keep notes to reference quickly, that's when I ran into your spreadsheet. Just for sh**s & giggles here is the suspect items I gathered in case you're interested, all copy/pasted from their web site. (sorry about the varied font sizes)

Thats interesting and I wasn't aware Smooth had triacetin in it ... not that I used Smooth.  Makes you want to just use TPA concentrates since they publish the most about their contents.

Will add columns to the spreadsheet later today :)

My favorite review:

The Perfumers Apprentice   Blue Cheese   Brave   Evil. Pure evil. More like toe cheese .. musty toe cheese      0.5-1%   No      No   You'd have to be fucking mad to vape this

rfol

Thanks for list

Good to have you return back to the forum.

Yeah.  It's weird.  Just before Xmas I was considering becoming a juice vendor.  Since the EU proposed restrictions plans have gone awry.  Then the day job has gone mental.  I've been a bit disillusioned with why I was mixing when in reality I only vape around 5 recipes out of a portfolio of about 50.

Then the TVL forum I was a member of got closed so I've dropped out of the community stuff as well.

It'll come back I'm sure ... have still been writing recipes just not mixing oddly enough.  Mainly been focussing on getting a preferred atty setup

Thanks for this work, as a noob mixer I wish I'd found it a few months ago.
