Hello, I just want to start out by saying thank you breaktru for all your help and inspiration. My question is this. I have the STD30PF03LT4 P-channel mosfet that I want to use in a copper tube mod. I also would like to make it work with a touch switch. I have successfully got a N-channel mosfet using a touch switch to work on a breadboard but I'm not sure about wiring up a P-channel.... The package I ordered is the http://www.st.com/internet/com/TECHNICAL_RESOURCES/TECHNICAL_LITERATURE/DATASHEET/CD00003366.pdf I thought i was getting the IPAK but I received the DPAK instead. It's not an issue to work with physically , I am just wondering if I would wire it up that same way as an N-Channel. Thanks again. ;cheers;

A P-Channel is better suited for a tube mod. The positive supply is routed through the Mosfet.
An N-Channel would route all negative connections through the Mosfet.

Note:
Be aware that humidity and skin/finger resistance is a factor on turning on the Mosfet.
The resistor between the Gate and Source may have to be tweaked for the Mosfet to turn on fully. Put a volt meter on Drain to ground.
And.... make sure you also test it out w/ a load attached. Further tweaking maybe required.

Thank you, I have it working on a bread board and have tested it under load and it is working great. Going to build a simple 3.7 for the wife soon using it......Thanks again :)
This one doesn't use a touch switch but I built this mod not too long ago using the Ti ptn04050c booster chip. It was tough getting all that in 3/4 copper. :thumbsup:

Those are gorgeous mods, LearFX. I tried making one too with a mechanical switch, but I'm having trouble soldering to a thick copper pipe. Did you use a regular soldering iron to attach atty to the cap, or blow torch?

Thank you Commie : ) I used a propane torch to solder the atty to the copper. A small soldering iron just won't do it.

I found that drilling the copper and inserting the shell from an eGo/510 adapter, then placing a small wind of solder around the last of the exposed threads-to-copper, and then holding it over the flame on the propane-stove did the trick nicely.
Mind you, I only thought of runoff AFTER I got a touch, and I read that rubbing graphite around the site to solder would have prevented that small smear.

I finished my first touch switch mod. I made this using a p-channel mosfet in 3/4 copper pipe. This was more or less a test mod for a new etching technique, finer detail of the etching and of course the touch switch. The etchings on the mod are that of buddhist art work. Thanks again for the help breaktru.

Great etching.... and another work of art. Great to see you back Learfx.
The touch switch design is nicely incorporated into theme of the etching.
