Break you had an angel looking out for ya.

The 1st groove that went boom, a guy named Derek he and I had correspondence, he said, "it went up fast like this video.
He had dropped it off his dresser he ran and grabbed it with a towel and threw it in the sink and dumped salt and water on it..

Lets you know they do need a metal case IMO they may or may not give those few precious secs to react.

It was the center screw that pierced the foil wrapper

Inside the case its oxyegn starved and that may be why it does give a few react secs..

Couple points about LiPo fires, for one they provide their own oxygen so because of that water has zero effect on putting them out.  You have to use a fire extinguisher, though if one goes up that fast, doesn't really matter, it will be pretty much out before you can put an extinguisher on it.  Also, Lithium reacts violently with water.  I saw a video where someone through a chunk of pure lithium in a pond and it created a seriously massive explosion.  Water is just going to speed up the reaction.

That guy got lucky on that one.  They normally don't go up that fast.  That looked like a 60C 3S cell which means there's a lot more energy that can be released all at once compared to a 20C single cell.  I've watched a few nail piercing videos on the single cells and they don't go up that fast.  Also, putting a nail through one provides the maximal area for energy to release.  A minor puncture is not going to do that.  Still, they go off pretty fast at best, but they don't usually explode like that, more of a fast burn.

Plus the nail went through all three cells at once

So many misknowmers about the salt water bath..   I also would have thrown it in salt water til now.

Did a lil research and yes salt water is not a solution it only accelerates the problem..

Everyone on the modding facebook page has this knowledge about salt water stopping the reaction-- oh boy ut oh..

Thanks Craig

It's always a good idea to keep a proper fire extinguisher in your home.  Especially if you ever have to put out a lithium battery fire.  I have two, one under the kitchen sink which is a pretty big one and a smaller one on the wall in my garage.  I even have a little one in my car.
