New LG High Drain Batteries
« on: April 05, 2014, 01:23:22 PM »
Hey all.  I have been trying to get my hands on a few of these new LG batts that everyone is raving about but there is some confusion.  I see some rated at 20a constant and 30a peak and others at 35a constant.  They are different colors as well.  Can anyone tell me exactly which battery is the correct one.  I know that they are not the 3000mah ones but they come in blue pink red ect.  Def need some help.  do not want to ruin a battery or device by using a under powered battery.  I have pretty much switched exclusively to 30a batts when it comes to 18650's.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  OH and just for some show and tell. here is that latest Dna 30 Mod I made.  Hope you all like it.

Looks really good there JonGio.

As far as the LG batts go, the only one I've seen that has the really drain is the LGDBHE21865.  I haven't been able to find an official data sheet on that one, but I've seen ratings that state 20A continuous and 30A burst.  That should be high enough for any atomizer you would want to run practically.  For a DNA30 (limited to 12A), it's plenty high enough.  The shrink wrap on these cells is a light red.

The 3000mAh LG batt (LGABD11865) is an ICR battery which has a 2C drain limited to 6A.  That one requires a special charger that terminates at 4.35V instead of the normal 4.2V.  They're really good batteries provided you have the special charger for them and don't need a high drain battery, but for most vapers, they're not going to be very practical.  The shrink wrap on them is pink.

If there's a newer model than the LGDBHE21865, I'm not aware of it.   That one came out a few months ago, but it seems the Japanese battery makers are coming out with new models pretty frequently.

A more popular new model battery is the Sony US18650VTC5 which has a 30A continuous rating and is more widely available than the high drain LG cell.  The high drain LG cells are hard to find at retail right now.

The DNA30 has a maximal drain requirement of 12A so any battery or combination of parallel cells that can handle that drain should work fine with it.

They are different colors as well. I know that they are not the 3000mah ones but they come in blue pink red ect.

There's only one color for the LG ICR18650HE2 (2500 mah)

This cell is rated at 20A, but can handle a pulse discharge up to 35A...although not recommended by LG.

Not hard to locate at all, they're all over the net.

A host just finished up a coop for them over at the big forum.

(LG is South Korean, not Japanese.)

thanks I figured those were them but when I say the 35a lg's i got confused.  I am a big fan of the green sony's.  Right now all I use are those and the orbtronics.  Cant go wrong with either of them.

I am a big fan of the green sony's.

The latest Sony high drain battery is better anyway, higher capacity, higher drain limit.

http://www.orbtronic.com/sony-18650-2600mah-vtc5-30a-high-drain-hybrid-imr-li-ion-battery

The superior status of the LG battery was rather short lived, just until the Sony battery went from the US18650VTC4 to the US18650VTC5.
