While files aren’t mods, they can and are used to build them! Files of all type have been used form the beginning of time and having a few tricks to make them work better can’t hurt! Safe Edge Files is one trick!
What is a “Safe Edge File”? In the photo you’ll see a small four sided file that I’ve removed the file cutting edge from one side. This the Safe Edge and allows you to place that Safe Edge (smooth) on a surface I don’t want to cut while filing a surface at 90 degrees to it. While they can be purchased, I like to make my own. Just be careful to not overheat the file or it will lose its temper and cutting ability!
Chalking your files: When filing what I call gummy metals (ie: Aluminum, Copper, Titanium & others) and/or certain plastics I’d find my files would clog very easily. What to do after I clean them out again! And old jeweler taught me this a long time ago and while it’s not a new idea, but it may be new to someone else. If you fill the cuts of the file with chalk the gummy metal or plastic won’t plug them nearly as easily and can make your work much easier.
Try it! That’s my 2 cents!
