Purple eFest 35A 2500mAh
« on: May 07, 2014, 06:42:27 PM »
I just noticed the 2500mAh 35A purple eFest battery is in stock at vape shops now.  Anybody test these?

Would like to know how the voltage drop under load (DCR) compares to the Sony VTC5 or LG DBHE2 battery.  I find it hard to believe eFest can compete with Sony or LG, but the numbers will tell.  Would really like to see discharge curves, but that information is not always easy to come by.

I would like to know as well. From what I had heard they were just the LG rebranded

Efest is a brand name that means, "We only make cheap IMR batteries, everything else is rewrapped."

Efest is a brand name that's owned by Shenzhen E-Young

China cannot compete with South Korean or Japanese made batteries, so they don't even bother trying....they just rewrap high quality cells in a new jacket and slap their name on them.

This is common really, other retailers (like Orbtronic) do the very same thing.

That's actually really good news.  The LG cells are hard to get at the retail level.  If the purple eFest is simply a rebranded LG cell, that's a major bonus, easy to get and top quality.

The newest cell that I personally would love to see tested ...is the new Samsung INR18650-24R

This one has some extreme potential.

The HE2's are pretty common on eBay.

Just directed another member there yesterday; pair for $17 shipped (local seller)

This one looks real interesting for a dual batt config with a really nice capacity.  Would love to see some serious test data on that one.

Never trust the specs without first knowing what's under the label.

China has a bad habit of making false claims about the strength and capacity of their cells and/or their re-wrapped ones.

Best way to find out is just ask them what's under the jacket?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were a Panasonic NCR/A....which is not 20A and is NOT a good vaping cell.

I'm having some fun browsing that eFest site, interesting, check out how they list the HE2, same specs as the pruple one; link

Based on what I see there, looks like the eFest 35A 2500mAh cell is simply a rebranded button top version of the HE2.  Though, from LG published data I've seen, it's rated for 20A continuous.  35A is the burst rating.  So that's kind of a cheat actually.  I believe the Sony VTC4 and VTC5 cells are rated for 30A continuous.

The VTC4 is a crap cell IMO....dies rapidly in a 20A drain, so it's claimed "30A" is pretty much laughable.

The VTC5 is clearly a much improved cell, but I'm not at all confident in Sony considering some of the previous crap performances.

The S. Koreans have really stolen the limelight from the Japanese in recent years and are creating the best batteries on the planet.

Samsung and LG are the best performers so far with Panasonic and Sanyo in close second.

The LG D1 is still my favorite cell, but nobody can use it cuz you need a special charger for it. (4.35V)

I mean....look at this thing! (5A Drain)

The only cell that even comes close to it is a King King 26650!

And the 3A drain is really amazing...

Hits 3.3V at 2700 mah!  ;hubba;

What, what?  This one; link

I like the LG cells a lot so I guess I'm good there.  I built my last batch of 18650 mods with the LG D1 cells.  I use a 4.35V charger controller (MCP73833-NVI/MF) with a 1A USB charging interface.  They've been performing brilliantly for some months now.  Great run times.

Unless they come out with something better, I plan to use the HE2 next time I build an 18650 mod.  The much lower DCR is a big advantage.  Though I'm sure they'l bump the capacity with a new model soon.  A 20A 3100 mAh cell would be perfect, but I'd be quite happy if they can get it up to 2800 mAh.

That may be a good one, but there's some ambiguity there.  The listing says 3C and then it says max discharge 18A, which is it?  Like you said, you have to take the data posted by these China vendors with a grain of salt.  They like to cheat when they can.

For me it really comes down the cell's internal impedance and also the shape of the discharge curves.  That information is usually only found in the part's data sheet.  Otherwise, I have to buy a couple cells and test them myself which I don't want to do.  Then I end up with a bunch of cells I may or may not want to use.

The D1s I'm already using have the desired capacity (3Ah) and great looking curves, but the DCR is a bit high on them, pretty much at the limit for my controller board.  I can get some improved performance out of the electronics if I can find a cell with better power delivery, but I don't want to sacrifice much on the capacity rating.
