Elric the return of the sx350 saga.
« on: June 01, 2014, 07:29:04 AM »
So I had been trying to build an sx350 device calling it the Crum-Dubh but that project hit a few issues and ultimately the sx350 board lost its screen.
Now that means it's essentially useless unless I discover a way to replace the screen.

Not to fear though, due to the generosity of friends I got hold of another sx350, indeed another on top of that as well.

So not wanting to jinx a new project the device has been given a new name since it also has a new body - it shall be Elric (Elric of Melnibourne) from the Michael Moorcroft book series The Eternal Champion.  Indeed the further board when it arrives and I build a device with it will be named Von Bek, another aspect of the champion.

So here is the first video of the build.

Also since it may be the sx350 will be uprated to 50W output I will have to see if it might be better for Von Bek to become a 26650 device to satisfy the hunger for power, but that is the future.

Please comment on what you think about this build.

Good videos.
My suggestion with soldering is to heat the objects and allow the solder to flow into the heated parts and not melt the solder on to the objects.
This will insure a trouble free connection.

Yeah I have bad soldering habits which I keep trying to stop myself having. . .

I see a lot of people do it the same way. So don't take what I said the wrong way. Just trying to help you avoid a resistance path.
Keep up the cool Videos.  :rockin smiley:

Not finished, that was just getting it functional - now we head into the cosmetic surgery. . .

Good idea you have separating the top and bottom with epoxy and using vasoline.
Also leveling the top and bottom, removing the slant

Well these forums are for sharing ideas and tips.

I may not be the most competent modder in the world but before e ciggery I was doing fantasy wargame models, train sets, good old airfix kits and of course match stick models.

Skills you learn doing one hobby very often overlap into others.
Also I have had too many mods with steamed up screens in the Scottish rain to not try and make the thing at least splash proof.

The end of the build - Elric Lives !

The video editing takes way longer than building it did. . .

Congratulations. Not bad at all.

I also have problems with corners when doing carbon fiber. I saw some videos of using a heat gun to cover curved areas. Never tried though.

I was yelling at ya so very boring, then intrigued, then wow, awesome..
Patience eh...

I think it was awesome with the ridged body pre epoxy fill.  I was amazed the vinyl followed it's contour that well, maybe it was better on cam than in person but bravo..

We knight thee Elric the carbonyl or is that sir Elric of vinyl carbon, you guys and your cool titles..
