1st time build disaster, kinda
« on: March 31, 2015, 09:10:52 AM »
Just finished my first build and learned alot of what not to do's. I also have almost enough parts on hand to start my next build for the wife so this was a good learning experience all the way from enclosure selection down to heat shrink wraps. I also learned something else that I am in the process of finishing. Why don't anyone just wire the voltmeters from the 510 connector + to - ? I was tinkering with the idea and a switch can easily be added in line and also It shows voltage drop with atty attached and unloaded voltage when unscrewed with the exception you have to push the trigger to get a reading either way so why haven't any made a schematic incorporating this. I have to say I used some 12ga wire for mosfet to atty which I now know was overkill while im using dual 9a fuses and while trying to trim it to length to attach to the + pin of 510 connector I cut into my box chipping a piece off. Anyone know if its repairable by weld or would epoxy and grinder be a better bet. I will be posting finished photos shortly when I find my phone but what do you guys think?

And parallel config. Waiting on my triple 18650 box to solder another xt60 connector so I can run li-ion mode if I chose lol.

I know this is dumb but you do realize you wired it in series.

Nope, it's 2x 7.4v in parallel. With this setup I can run series if I wish. Only limits I have is coil resistance to stay under 18 amps.

This box is waay more than I bargained for. Going from istick 20w to a friend's sigelei on 100w sub ohm, my build is only pushing 35w but it will blow away the sigelei on higher settings. I don't think I would ever need to go below a 1.7 ohm coil. Can any of you guys that vape on 2.5 and higher ohm coils tell me how much of a difference there is on a dripper?

So with this  you are saying series is 14v? Because with a volt over 4.2 you are in series.

Running them the way I am it would be considered 4s2p

4s is 16.8v

2s4p is 7.4v with 4 batts in parallel

The coil hugely depends on its gauge if you take a 22ga 2.4ohm coil and hit it with 7.4v it will stilll give ya 22 watt vape but slow ramp up to vapor very  very thin vapor.

If you take a 28gauge coil to 2.4ohm and hit it with 7.4v it will be hella hot even tho it is the same 22 watts..

Coil gauge determines how the reaction to wattage is applied..

Don't you mean 2s2p?  4s2p would be 15V and with a 2.4 Ohm coil that's over 90W which would not work well unless the wire is very heavy, like 24 gauge.  A 2.4 Ohm coil with 24 gauge wire would be very long, probably 20 or 30 large turns.

holy cow mon 30 ga @ 7.4v holy hellz belles hawt

Your way way way over the 2000 degree if it weren't for the heatsink of wicking and juice but they gotta be vaporizing fast..

This is where it will make formaldehyde so please use proper gauge wire for that setup   you should be using 26ga or lower..

Here's the temp chart per amp per gauge

Wow I was just thinking about watts thanks for info but now I got to figure about what Guage twisted 30 would be comparable to I guess. Or just go buy some bigger wire lol.  It is sucking the juice down quick though on dual coil 2.4 ohm plume veil.

Just seen another chart like that apparently I need about a 10 ohm coil.

Just seen another chart like that apparently I need about a 10 ohm coil.

Your gonna love some 24-26ga with that 2s setup a nice .8ohm coil will give ya decent run time and mega clouds and full on flavor if wicked right.  I am vaping a .8 26ga coil at 6v right now its amazing comfortable vape, so good..

@6v 26ga @.8ohm   spools up fast but at 5v it is a turtle,  it takes about 3sec to gimme some good vapor and it still isn't a cloudychaser cloud,  at 6v its at that sweet spot just before it goes fog machine at 6.8v-8v..

Lol you know what,  I just saw on a MV a few weeks back,  a 5 ohm coil and I was thinkin to myself now who would need that,  thats ludicrous..   Now I know of quite a few who can use that cartomizer  :laughing2:

http://www.madvapes.com/smok-tech-5-ohm-510-cartomizer-single.html

twisting the 30ga it will drop it to 28.6ga per se',  they say about 1.4 gauge drop when twisted and a little bit better when in parallel for lower ohms.  I always got hot spots when i tried twisting and nasty metallic flavor.  I have a 4 twist 30 braid that is amazing to look at but in an atomizer its uber nasty metallics..
