"Copper on Copper"

I adapted the Digital Potentiometer for the TI PTR08100w regulator being that the reg needed a pot resistance of 200 ohms and the smallest D.P. is 10k ohms. Actually got it to work in a range of 2.05v :o to 5.66v
3 Bullets have been used to build it. .44 cal magnum rim for the touch sw base and two .22 cal casings to connect the caps and route wiring through.

I put in a Mosfet touch switch. My preliminary bench test with an N-Channel Mosfet produced an output voltage w/ Mosfet off. I realized that I missed breaking ONE neg wire. ALL neg wires have to be broken through the mosfet in order for it to work.
A P-Channel Mosfet is the best choice for a METAL tube mod. Being that I am using two 18350, 1200mah's totaling 7.4v to 8.4v's and most of the Mosfet's have a Gate Threshold Voltage or 2v to 4v to fully turn on the chip, I used a 100meg ohm resistor across the Gate to Source pins and it worked perfectly. I could possibly have used a 20 meg ohm which I did not have on hand and putting two 10m in series would have taken more precious space.
I used a STP12PF06 mosfet because that's what I had on hand. It's a large TO-220 footprint, I'd advise a smaller footprint.

The tubes are adjustable by just sliding in or out. They can hold many types and size batteries. You can fit two 18650's (18mm diameter) down to 18350's. For smaller diameter batteries such as 17500 (17mm), 16340 & RCR123a (16mm) and 14500 (14mm), a filler tube can be placed around the battery.

**I am happy to share info with all that drop by this forum. So dropping a mention when you post your mod elsewhere would be a decent gesture.

What's inside:
WOW!!! Really cool, has everything but a digi readout! Love your P-channel touch switch, good idea! Couple of questions ..

Where are you gonna fine a 100M resistor? I have had to resort to a 10M in my touch-switches.
What does the inhibit do (I assume it acts like a FET to control the VR) .. if so, is the FET really necessary?

Sorry for the dumb questions, but I was curious :)

100m ohms at Digikey. I've tried every value under 100m and I couldn't get it to turn fully on unless it was a 100m.

You can use a low current tactile N/C sw from the inhibit to ground. But the chip will continue to draw low ma's while idle.

I do notice that, with a 10M resistor, sometimes it won't work unless your finger is slightly moist .. that explains a lot :) .. What's the 1K used for? I have used my touchie circuit with and without it, seems to work the same either way???

Actually Alan the Gate Threshold voltage on this particular Mosfet (common on most P-ch mosfets) is 2v - 4v. Perfect for two 3.7v batteries.
I am supplying 7.4v to 8.4v. So the 100 meg ohm brings the gate voltage down.
A 10 meg  would exceed the Vgs at 7.45 volts. However a 20 meg should just about do it a 3.91 volts (falls in the 2v-4v *Vgs)
The above resistor / voltages are readings I made and not calculated (real time testing).
* Vgs =Gate Threshold Voltage

Yes it works without the 1k resistor. I believe the 1K will protect the Mosfet from burning out. Not really sure. I've seen schematics with a pushbutton and NO resistor.

Excellent!! You always come up with the best stuff!! Tell me, are both 18350's in one tube or did you put one in each tube and wire them in series? Love your touch pad :)

Since you are into ammo, I think one made from a pair of 12ga 3.5" metal shells would look cool  ???

Thanks for posting the pics of the finished product, awesome .....

18350's, one in each tube.
12ga would be nice. I have 12ga 3" magnum slugs but they are not all metal casings.
Have never seen metal casings.

The Ruskies make a 2-3/4" metaL cased 12ga, I am sure longer ones are probably available too ????

Here's a listing for a 10-pack of em for 5 bucks plus shipping. The more you buy the cheaper the shipping per pkg. Betcha you have an ammo dealer that carries them, or maybe check your local gunshow.

I thank you for sharing this with the community. I love the touch sensor and the series
battery by connecting two tubes with the bullet casings. That's ingenious.

I wish you would market that PV. You would be rich for sure.
So cool and powerful. You know someone is going to steal it and claim it as their own like that Buzz guy.
Save these pages as proof that you made it first.
Can't wait to see your next mod. I think it would be hard to top this one breaktru.

Thank you for offering all the details for all of us to view.
By the way your eJuice Me Up eJuice calculator is spectacular as well. It is very popular on several foreign ecig forums. I found it on a German forum.

Those 14250's are only 350mah at most and won't last very long.
You would be better off with 16340's. The highest I've seen are 880mah and 1000mah.
But I like with breaktru used, 18350's, 1200mah. Anything bigger would be too heavy.
Well done breaktru.

One more question .. you have a digi pot in your diagram, how do you control it? A pair of buttons or ???

There are 3 ways.
1 switch for up/down voltage control
2 switches, 1 for up and 1 for down
CPU controlled

I chose the 1 switch. Like I put in my Booster Mod

Using two 18650's would be one POWER HOUSE of a mod.
That's the route I would take. It's fantastic that this mod can also take that size batteries as well as the smaller sized. :o
IMO the 08100w regulator and the 18650 batteries are top performers. :P

Yes they will work rr but they will be physically larger. If you're going to squeeze them into a tube, I would go with 10v or even 16v caps. Also be aware that the tantalum are smaller than the Aluminum but cost a little more. I mostly use Tantalum 10v.

Recieved a post over at ECF from M.M.M. about how I keep the copper shiny and how often.......

I use #0000 grade steel wool about once a week. Takes about 5 seconds to make it shiny bright again.
Warning, leave the atty on so not to get any tiny metal hairs into the battery to atty connector. Don't wan't to cause a short. There so dam small and you may not notice it.
Also, be careful if you're buffing w/ S.W. with the tubes off. That stuff can get inside the circuitry and short out the internals.
Haven't tried the Scotch pads. They may work but I'm sure it would be more effort to shine to a bright finish.

Update: Scotch pads work fine. Comes in several grades.

Don't use too coarse of a grade of steel wool or scotch pads. You don't want to make scratches in your copper. Takes a lot of effort to remove them.

Thank you V.H. Glad you appreciate it.

Take a look at Alan's Mods (asnider). They are really cool and unique. He's a fantastic modder and a great guy.

NO DOUBT, I second that motion!

Not to downgrade Dave's genius, you gotta go see Al's collection....

The guy is an amazing inventor, he's creating new ones daily.

How many does he have now, Dave? 100? 200?

I've tried and failed to make something like this mod.
This would be my ultimate mod.
Can I buy one from your breaktru?
