Huston – We have a problem
« on: June 04, 2011, 01:10:23 PM »

Found some number combinations that cause errors.

Nic Str = 100
Target = 60
PG or VG < 17
Error = You need to add more VG/PG. Can not use (-) negative numbers as shown. Recalculate

Nic Str = 60
Target <= 30
PG or VG = 0
Error = You need to add more VG/PG. Can not use (-) negative numbers as shown. Recalculate

These are just 2 examples I found in a few minutes.

Very handy program and well laid out, but with errors like this I'm not sure I should trust the output.

Hope it's only a monor oversight someplace.

Hey CloudyVapor,

Actually it is NOT an error or problem but has been programmed in to the program. It's a WARNING that the PG/VG ratio that you have entered WILL produce a negative number and you should adjust to a ratio to allow all positive results.
No where in the pop does it state "Error"
Note that the flavoring subtracts PG/VG as the flavors have already PG or VG.

Also, you can put your numbers in to any other eJuice calculator and come up with a result.
But, is the result correct. I think not. This will warn you to make adjustments.
If you try Scubabatdan's spreadsheet, you will also come up with a negative number.

Actualy the results are in error

I was trying to figure the storage I would need if I purchased 100mg/ml nic juice and deluted to 60mg/ml juice so there was no flavorings or anything else to add/subtract.

Example:
PG = 100%
Nic Strength = 100mg
Target Strength = 60mg
Amount = 30ml
all other entries = 0

Results:
Nic Juice = 18ml
PG = -3ml
VG = 15ml

This is incorrect as there was no VG to start with only PG in the Nic Juice that should be dulited with 0mg PG.

Are you saying this is the intended results?

As I was thinking about the problem I have a question.

As there is no place to specify a target ratio of PG|VG should I assume there is a hard coded ratio that makes it impossible to formulate a pure PG or VG recipe?

PS: I am not attacking your work, on the contray I am a new DIY mixer trying to find the right tools to learn with and am hoping this is one of those tools I will use for may years to come. I'm actualy quite impressed with what you have created and given to our community for free, please keep up the good works. :)

Down in the Result portion of the form is the PG/VG Ratio which is your TARGET ratio.
Look at the How to page and also view the PDF that a user named Epsilon made:

I see said the blind man :)

I had missed that those were input fields, very light background made them hard to see.

Pardon my missunderstanding and thanks very much for the clarification.

No problem CloudyVapor,
I hope that the calculator will help with your DIY recipes.
Glad that I could help you out with your questions. Questions were good and I'm sure it will help others with the same issues and are hesitant to post them. Thank you for posting them.
Now go make some tasty mixes.

I didn't understand the warning at first but I've been using it now a long time and find the software quite complete and accurate.

A user had complained about the Pop-Up warning annoying.

Just a little note:

Because we are dealing with Nicotine, I felt it necessary to use the pop up warning rather than highlighting the incorrect measurements. I didn't want anyone missing the highlighted text and accidentally poisoning them selves.
In fact I should have used a Skull and Crossbone w/ sirens blasting. LOL

LOL....

Better yet, do like the new analog warnings and put a scare tactic on there.

A dead "??" with X's over his eyes and drooling tongue hanging out his mouth, laying next to his bad juice mix and a PV.

See this example on the ECF forum. This may be a little clearer on why a NEGATIVE result was calculated.

hi there I figured this might be a good place to get help.

I have calculated my juice like this:

100%VG
strength 100MG
target 18MG
size 5ML
water/pga 5%
pg 50%
VG 50%
flavor 1 5%
flavor 2 5%

i seem to get the correct amount and yet my 5ML bottle does not fill up it is only about half way to the top
how do i make it fill a 5 ML bottle to almost the brim without changing the pg/vg level?

Welcome to the forum ebne08.
How are you measuring? Drops are not accurate. The size of the drops for different liquid consistencies will vary.
I find that a syringe is the most accurate way of measuring.
When using a syringe, familiarize yourself with the graduation marks on the syringe. The results of your ingredients are in the hundreds because of the total amount selected.
Ex: 1.88 of PG, 1.48 of VG.
For the PG use the 1.9 marking and for the VG use 1.5 on the syringe

I am measuring with a syringe, however I was trying to get close as I can to the marking it told me.  So I now see that going up a mark could be the way to go.  Will test that theory.  I was also thinking the 5ml bottle can hold more than 5 ML.  So if that is the case should I set the calculator for 6ML instead of 5ML?  Oh and i actually meant to put in my post some of the liquids im trying to do is 40PG/60VG.  thats why i chose to get 100% VG nic and was told 100MG nic is easier to figure out the math

If you had put in 5ml for the amount to make and the 5ml bottle was half full, you may have miss-read the syringe markings.

I don't think a 5ml bottle can hold 6ml. Fill the 5ml w/ water and measure the amount that you extract out w/ a syringe.

Hi there,

Ok i checked a couple bottles, and one is 5 ML the kind you use for DoD.  The one's I have been using are supposed to be 5 ML they are bigger but not the same as a 10ML.   I think it just depends on the bottle.  Btw thank you for your responses.
