My tiny little bitty tube mod
« on: August 19, 2011, 11:19:00 PM »
As you know, I recently got my fav mod, GGTB .. I covet it !! Anyway, I was thinking "Wouldn't it be cool to have a similar tube mod (not another flashlight mod), but be barely larger than a 14500 battery and support both an 801 carto (my fav) as well as any 510 device?" (I have strange daydreams sometimes).

Here is my latest mod. As you can see, it resembles a mini version of my GG. Of course, it is completely different, it's all looks! Still looking for a name.

I started out with a 1-AA cell phone emergency charger

As you can see, it is quite a bit smaller than my GG

It consists of 3 components: an alum tube, a battery cap, and my homemade switch unit.

Here is my switch unit. It consists of a battery PCB, a tactile switch, and an 801 batty connector, all sealed into a single unit with hi-temp hot-glue. It even has a drip cup, LOL

Man, my Godzillamizer is bigger than the battery

Wow!! It works pretty good!!

Ya know, I knew I forgot about somethin'!

I was gonna try to mod one of these myself when I was doing the Cisco laser mod.

These are really cheap on eBay.

Somebody else modded one of these awhile back, but with the new "tech" out there, this one is much nicer!

Did you use one of those new PCB e-Go switches that Dave showed me?

(I'm assuming that you showed Dave first, yes?)

Cuz the button plunger-cap looks metal?? Is it?

And if ya wanna go 2 batts, I know there's an extension somewhere on eBay for those, to connect another shell just like it.....but I'd have to search for it.

Nice MOD Al, really like it.

Have you done the laser MOD yet?

Yes, Times, I completely forgot about that. I have 2 tubes and they screw together, so this mod can use 1 or 2 14500 batts (for 3.7 or 7.4v vaping) or, for the truly adventurous, how about 4-14250's for a 14.8v experience? LOL

Of course, you would really need a high-resistance atty or you would just burn the out. But the vapor would really rock for a second or two

Real smart looking mod and very cheap dude.
What's the tactile sw rating?

Heck, I don't know .. went to MV and it's not listed anymore, guess they quit carrying it ??? I liked it because I needed a tiny switch and this was the only one that fit. It's probably pretty low current. It's a flat switch with a nylon plunger laying flat between the batty connector and the PCB. It will probably fail eventually, that's ok, have a second one to work with if it does.

The problem is the tiny space you have for a switch. Tried to fit a MOSFET touch switch but there's just not enough room. Perhaps a bottom plunger switchless setup would work but I like that it can sit upright on my endtable :)

So far it works fine

Looks like the MV tact switches I have.
They have two force ratings of 100g and 300g (grams of force to actuate)
They are 50 milli amps.
People have used them with 2-3 amps and said they work okay.
I would parallel the double set of contacts which would double the amperage rating to 100 milli amps. (still way under rated)

If you mean those cool ball tactile switches, that's not it, not enough room to mount in that tiny shell. I used this switch, it is a plunger type switch black with a nylon plunger shaft. No click either.

I think you're right, they were something like 50-100 mah, way too low. However, I had it on hand and it was the only switch small enough (beibg flat) to fit in the shell along with a batt connector and the B+ PCB.

Incidently, this is NOT a pocket vapemod, no master switch and the button pushes with no effort at all, it would pocket fire for sure.

Great mod Alan regardless of the sw. If it goes it goes. So what. I like it.

I've got a string of these 4mm micro switches with PCB pins.

I'd have offered them to you earlier, but I figured you wouldn't use them.

They're rated at a mere 50mA, but I go through (1) about every 6 months.

Aaaaaand a rebuttal, that I should have clarified what I meant....the extension will give you enough spare room for a regulator.....like an e-Go type switch/reg.

But thanks for making me look stupid....again.

Her ya go, Wizard:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/20-TACTILE-PUSH-BUTTON-SWITCH-6X6X4-3mm-SPST-NO-/390295724287?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5adf7020ff

And they work GREAT!!

They're so small that I had to super-glue a make-shift cap for it.

I used a spent protected cell's PCB, ground off the circuit chips and mounted it board side down.

It even pivots for a very easy actuation but stiff enough that it clicks.

LOL!!!! I completely mis-understood what you were talking about with the extension, sorry :)

You have a bunch of these switches? MV doesn't list them anymore (at least I can't find them) .. where did u get them? I like them, they're so small they will fit anywhere.

Yeah, I know....

They're smaller than the ones you're referring to!

But they're Japanese made and are super durable.

Hence why I had to make an artificial cap for it.

Just to give you a better idea of how small these are in diameter, they're rough 1/3 the size of a 10440's protection circuit.

And the plunger's diameter is about the size of a standard BB.

MICRO-SWITCH!!

Here's another pic, showing this new homebrew with battery extension next to my GGTB. Note that it is slimmer and about an inch longer than the GG. I think it's right handsome!

Hey, where can I find the battery tube on ebay? Having issues finding them.

EDIT: aha nevermind. I can't spell. Found some.
