Telescopic Battery Spacer
« on: August 24, 2011, 10:41:42 PM »
I had to do a little something tonite (it's therapeutic), so I built myself a battery spacer similar to the telescoping spacer that came with my GGTB ..

As you know, the TB has a telescoping battery spacer so that you can use 14500, others in the GG. Using a couple of parts from my parts drawers, I made another batt spacer for use on a new mod that a most generous friend is sending me, a Bauway 510N .. it normally takes unprotected 18650's (which I don't presently have). I plan to use it for the time being with an AW14500, so I made an adjustable batt spacer for it.

Not very good pics, but you get the idea.

Short (same size as compressed GG spacer)

Extended (it will go even longer if nec)

It will look much better when I replace the tapered washers with a stack of flat ones, but it works just fine and, just like the GG original, is fully adjustable to take care of different battery sizes.

OK, I know it's dumb, but hey, modding helps me sleep :)

Don't mean to be a downer on your new gift before it arrives, Al, but I think you should read this WHOLE thread before you start using it, if you haven't already:

Everything was lookin' great until I found the BOMBSHELL video at the end!

So if the one you get isn't vented, you'll know which one ya got.

Dave also posted a fix on sticky switches, in another post somewhere, where he used a little mineral oil on it to lube it. Lots of people replied back saying that it fixed their problem and works better now than it did brand new. But I don't remember what model it was referring to.

Anyways, just want you to be safe.

Yup, aluminum binder posts. We used to call them "Sex Bolts" and we use them for, among other things, tying kitchen cabinets together, etc. They come in all different shaft lengths and, being aluminum, they conduct elec just fine.

All you need is a stack of faucet washers to insulate it from the outer tube. I put the screw-head toward the battery, that way you have a smooth head for the screw-on part of your mod.

If you wanted, you could use a drop of BLUE locktite (the adjustable stuff) just to keep the screw in the same position but still be able to adjust with a screwdriver.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I am aware of 2 probs:
1. Tolerances won't allow protected 18650s due to extra diameter
2. Venting

Both probs easily remedied. Use 17670 batts (smaller in diameter) or some other batt, drill 2 tiny vent holes in butt-end of battery compartment (facing away fron the atty).

Haven't heard of switch prob but understand that it has an eGo switch setup in it.

Hey, I was offered it for free from a friend, I can certainly mod it for safety, etc. Thanks for the info on the switch, I will fix that too!!

I think it's a kinda neat mod, will post more when it arrives

Okay, well, just wanted you alive....

Who else in here is gonna keep us "entertained"?

Dave is the WoW factor, but you Wizard....

Yeah, I really liked it too!!

I think its a great mod kit for the price.

Hope you get the one that won't need fixing.

I recently made a spacer from a neo-magnet and stainless steel spring. Great for telescopic mods and holds in place perfectly.

Cool Moggy. I've used the rare earth magnets myself

Don't use Rare Earth Magnets if you have kids in the house. Our 12 year old swallowed 3-4 of the round ones ( go figure) and we spent 4 hours in emergency making sure they would pass. FYI  scared:

Mine are 10 and 14, I think they would rather be stuffing chocolates and crisps than magnets :)

It's a wonder at what yours was thinking, kids eh ?  raged:

You would think a 12 year old boy would have better things to do than suck on magnets, but there you go. The Dr said that if they got separated in the intestines, they could attract each other and tie the guts in knots. I hope he gets smarter as he gets older.

You would think so but kids are kids.
