Help a newbie where to make solder

Hello to all...i have found this forum and i like it very much because of the
all modding threads i learn so much things and want to start making mods
especially vv...but i am not good on electronics (resistors e.t.c)i want
someone to help me in my first steps and tell me some things...

first i have found this chip step down from ebay

can i put an volt display and where i must solder to connect it?

and also i have see this circuit

and it has a plan to make it variable....what other i need to make it work...

Here is a diagram on how to wire it with a voltage meter.  Just follow the red as positive and the black as negative.  You could also run the positive to the switches then to the converter instead of the negative, but I always keep my switches on ground unless I use a control pin.

These are two completely different chips and boards.  The first one is already setup to be variable as it has a built in trimmer.  The second one needs to have a trimmer and other resistors and capacitors installed to make it work.  I would suggest building the first one for your first VV as it is very simple to setup, the second one will take much more soldering and much more knowledge of electronic and wiring.
