I'm not sure if this has been discussed here before, but I ran across the Panasonic Hybrid/IMR CGR18650CH battery and quite simply said, "WTF". I typically use AW IMRs (14500 and 18650) and was wondering if these had a higher C rating, had more charge life in them, more consistent output, etc...

Put simply, I'm trying to tap the community here to see if these are bother looking into or if I should just stick with my AWs. Thanks (=

The CGR18650 cells have a 5C rating. They can put out 10amps but they are not ideal to be used in a single cell configuration for boosting circuits. If used for a booster they should be used with 2 in parallel. The extra 250mah is not that much over a 2k AW IMR 18650. I have 4 of them i use for my DNA12 mod, and they do perform very well compared to an AW IMR.

AW IMR 18650 cells have an 8C rating.

I thought the AWs had a higher C rating, like 15-20. Either way, I guess I'll stick with them. Thanks for the input! (=

I have 4 CGR 18650's that my buddy Timesarerough sent me and they are the best 18650's I have tried. With 2 in series running a PTR8100w I can get over 3 days of use.
I did beta testing of the DNA20D with 1 CGR which worked well. I didn't do a longevity test so I can't comment on how long it would last vaping it.
I run a single 20C li-po battery. One 1000mah and another mod with a 1200mah. I usually have to charge them the same time every day, so that's a full day of use. How ever if you go for a 2000mah or higher you should get more than 2 days of use.
I like the Li-Po's because how thin and powerful they are.

Whoops, looks like I was wrong about the C-rate on the AW IMR.

According to Lighthound.com here are the C-ratings for the AW IMR batteries

16340 550mah: 8C
18350 700mah: 8C
14500 600mah: 8C
18490 1100mah: 10C
18650 1600mah: 10C
18650 2000mah: 10C

If you want to look at loading in terms of how the rubber hits the road, you need to look at cell impedance.  This will tell you much voltage sag you'll get under load.

The C rating indicates the maximum load, but the cell impedance indicates the efficiency in delivering the load.  So, for example, the 1400mAh LiPo flat cells I use have about 25 mOhms internal impedance.  With a 10A load, they sag around 0.25V.  An AW IMR 18650 has around 35 mOhms.  It will sag around 0.35V with a 10A load.  The CGR18650CH has around 50 mOhms, it will sag around a half volt with a 10A load.  This is still lower than a protected ICR 18650.  Those have around 80 mOhms.

Most boosters are good with 50 mOhms cell impedance so a CGR18650CH should be no problem.  My own mods can't go higher than about 30 mOhms, but only because they have a high output limit of 30 Watts.  If I dropped the max output down a few Watts, a CGR18650CH would be fine.

Oh hell, I did the math, I only vape around 12W (4.2V w/ a 1.5O cart/atty), so that should not be a problem. I might consider some LiPos if that helps with me finding my case for it (that's a different thread though).
