Yes very good info Break.

The only question I have is what is a good fuse to use?

A PTC, resetable fuse. Rating of 3 - 3.5 hold and 6 - 7 amp Trip.

Ok kewl I did order 10 of those this morning I just wanted to make sure that nothing new has come out.

Just so I follow the information from the OP and the site it directs to, when ran in series one fuse is ok on the neg. (-) side, when parallel you should fuse each battery on the pos.(+)  side.

If you use those 20c cells from hobby king can you solder the fuse right to the tab?

This link appears to be broken. Do you have a better link Dave or anyone?

I just checked out the link and it worked for me...

Putting the PTC on either the Neg or Pos side for both Series and Parallel hooks like shown in the diagram will work the same.

An SMD fuse (surface mount) should really be soldered to a PCB.  It's not structurally designed to free hang with wires soldered to the end, though you could probably solder wires onto it without a whole lot of trouble.  The best thing to do would be to make a little PCB for it.  Mount the fuse onto a PCB then solder the cell tab to a pad on it.

The other option would be to find a leaded PTC fuse and use that.  The SMD ones are better, lower resistance, more compact, but you can find leaded ones that will work well.

I will probably do that..... I will make one that goes across both tabs and solder the tabs, fuse and then the leads off of that.

Thanks Craig.

That's what I would do.  You can mount the PCB to the cell with two sided tape.  The thick VHB or UHB stuff is best.
