Man that's a crappy looking converter they use on that, can't figure out why there's two of them, one buck one boost?  I thought the Vamo used PWM with a booster, but whatever.

unshielded inductors = lossy
tantalum capacitors = lossy
diode rectifiers = lossy
SOT MOSFETs = lossy, low current limit

Unless I'm misinformed, it's a buck-boost config and can operate both from one cell and two of them.

Must be.  Some of the Chinese variable mods boost to 6V then use PWM to regulate (hairbrained scheme, but cheap to implement and Chinese makers are all about cheap).  The Zmax is one.  I always assumed the Vamo was the same.

I was actually just toying with the idea of grabbing another one or two just to rip that circuit out.  They can be had for $27 USD

Looks like a simple build with this. Now if you can buy a complete Vamo for 26.99, the board should only cost 12 bucks.

That's usually the case, they charge way more for the parts than they are worth in the whole assembly.

Can you give me the link of this shop sir ?
Thank you in advance.

PS:My Vamo seams to have broken boost chip, works fine only with 2 stacked 18350. But I love it and want to repair it !

The best source (and least expensive) is here:

http://www.rainbowheaventec.com/sdp/1474662/4/pd-6042032/11494953-2354840/eGo_Variable_volt_watt_APV_Vamo_PCB.html

If you're a new buyer, you can request a sample purchase....which you might spend $15 instead of $10/ea.

MOQ's are not set in stone for new buyer's....that's what a SAMPLE PURCHASE is used for, to sample a product before making large purchases.

As long as the buyer identifies themselves as a BUSINESS, having preferably a business name that's associated with vaping or electronics.....anyone that's a new customer can order a sample purchase from any factory or factory rep in China.

Fortunately, 99% of Chinese factories don't bother with actual credential verification.

So if a lone member wanted to buy the controller, they could merely make-up whatever business name they cared to use along with their shipping address and phone number.

Only companies that are large enough to care (like Joyetech) will require significantly more documentation proving to them that you're a legitimate vaping business worthy of carrying their products and willing to sign their agreements.

But Rainbow Heaven just isn't gonna care....

For those in the USA, Kidneypuncher.com now offers the Vamo board for $21.  The link says pre-order, but they're actually in stock and available (as far as I can tell).

Yeah, OOOPS!

"No warranty. No Returns."

Wonder if they got a bunch of defective ones?

You would think they would have some sort of warranty for D.O.A. Sounds risky.

I agree.

Not having some kind of replacement or exchange warranty makes this purchase (at this particular vendor) a huge risk.

Again....a huge risk!

It's time to build my first Mod i have the Vamo 5 chip i think i understand where i need to solder. What i don't understand is what the 4 holes(bad term am sure) are for on one edge of the board. I cant seem too find a good tech sheet or picture that shows the 4 contacts and what they are for.

Any one know ?

thanks

Don't know what the four solder holes are. Perhaps for off-board remote switches? Most people solder remote switches right to the on-board switches.

I found one person say that they may be for programming the chip as the 4 holes trace back to the main chip. See: http://ukvapers.org/Thread-Vamo-PCB-s?pid=279729#pid279729

Could be for updating the Firmware.

Looks like a programming header to me.  Don't try to connect anything to those, could brick the board that way.

I very nearly bough a V5 chip till I realised a Vamo V5 was only £4 more than the board, so ordered one of them. Think I will go for a OKR for my second VV mod as used a buck to do a wired unit at the comp. Any other good cheap choices apart from the OKR?

Welcome to the forum Norrin.
Similar to the OKR-T/10 is the PTR08100W, the NQR010A0X4Z and the LDO10
