POT question (no not that kind of pot) need a quick fix
« on: March 04, 2013, 05:19:31 PM »
So I am in a pinch atm my old faithful black box literally got ran over(Im a mechanic) and I am in need of a quick fix as I have everything but a 200 ohm pot. I can get one across the street at the shack but the lowest they have is a 1k. I do not need it to be super accurate as I vape really between 3.8 and 4.4 so with a resistor can I take a 1k down to 2-250ish and how would I go about it. Thanks in advance.

Its just a little radio shack  1k pot I am going to use with a PTR08100(if I can drop the ohm of it down that is). I had thought I remember reading a while back about taking a res of the same ohm and adding it to 2 pins on the pot and cutting the ohm in half or something like that. My old faithful got left under the truck and when I pulled the truck out well.....heh

I think if you parallel a 250 ohm resistor with the 1k pot that should give you 200 ohms.  Smarter people than me should check this of course lol.

If you use a 1K, there will be a large portion of the pot that will be useless.
The resistor in parallel will give you very poor adjustment. Voltage adjustment will be in large leaps and hard to adjust.
Find the a 200 ohm trimmer pot. Don't rush it.

Then go with the 1k until a 200 comes in
