Make Your Own In-Line Voltmeter - Cheap
« on: September 24, 2013, 03:22:55 PM »
I've been asked many times about this. Finally got around to posting it.

  • 1S-6S voltmeter - can be purchased real cheap on ebay
  • Pill bottle
  • 510 connector w/ Nut or 510 press fit and epoxied
  • Flat washer
  • Atomizer connector - off of an old atty
  • Epoxy
  • Razor Cutter
  • Small amount of 20ga - 24ga wire
  • Solder

Another alternative is to use a small enclosure but requires more work to a cut display opening
Small Enclosures - See 1551NBK

Direct Link to enclosure

How AWESOME!!! Got to have it. I've only just looked at it, but will be sure and ask some stupid questions, lol.

edit: couple of questions...
1. can you tell us the dimensions on the pill bottle
2. could be kind enough to provide a link to eBay for the part (so I know I'm getting the right thing)

You're the man BT!

This meter ships from Hong Kong. May take a very long time to receive --> $2.53 - Free Shipping

This one ships from the U.S. --> $4.36- Free Shipping

The pill bottle I used is 15/16" diameter x 2 5/8" long. Length was cut to remove the locking tabs. I could of cut it down a little more.

Thanks friend. For a couple of bucks it's a great deal and it's easy to make. Beats paying 15 bucks for one.

I love this idea, thanks. I'm half way through making my third box mod and on this one I decided not to put a voltmeter inside to save space.
I realised that, once set, I rarely adjust the voltage on my boxes but it would be good to have a external voltmeter that I can use on all of my future builds to check my preferred settings.

Hi Breaktru,

If we are thinking about money rather than quality then 2nd technique will be good. Otherwise as I am also related to electrical industry. So 1st one will be more reliable in every point of view.

Hi aflex,
The 1st and second one use the same meter, same connectors and same wiring.

I notice that your signature shows a California based PCB Manufacturer site but your IP address is in Mumbai, India

Very good info. Now I am looking for a nice enclosure to do the same project.
