the dumb guide to rebuilding
« on: October 24, 2013, 04:18:27 PM »
so without the basic calculations and math and the long cpomputations that looks like rocket science.
this a brief guide in rebuilding...

**note don't blame me if the thing explodes in your face,i take no responsibility.
note a multimeter is required atleast,,,if you have a vamo or any vv mod with an ohm checker that is great.

a few points to remember

the thicker the wire less resistance
the thinner the higher

so if you are doing sub ohms

thick wire less loops

for a regulated mod

thin wire minimal loops or thicker wire and a lot of loops.

please do check your coils for resistance.

battery wise, always get those imr batteries they are ideally safer compared to other types,
if you know nothing on them and refuse to learn on whats already on these forums.better save money ans just buy aw imr's or efest batteries.
they are a bit pricey but thats the expense you pay for neglecting to learn...

air holes are a much needed modification to an rba/or rda simply because it controls the drag and amount of vapoor as well.
you may have a dual coil set up and think that everything is set up right, but having a small airhole would just slam it down per se...
drill them out to a comfortable size..or get those top caps with afc...

now basically there are 2 kinds of build out there,,,

contact coils
and spaced coils

contact coil/microcoil/nanocoil

are practically the same coils they only differ on diameters.
basically you wrap them around a "mold" then amke them all touching.

spaced/normal coils

are the opposite, they are basically coild evenly spaced with each other.

feel free to chimme in...

Good guide for rebuilding  :beer-toast:

I just have a couple of things to say:
1 - Contact coils. Windings that touch are a no-no. You are only shorting that part of the winding. Space them tight but not touching.

2 - Thicker wire needs MORE loops than if you used a thinner wire and was looking for the same resistance. I know that was probably not what you intended to say. It's just the wording that might confuse folks who are new at it.

can you clarify a bot on not touching? if overlapped ng was what was actually meant its fine and a big no no...

but if it was actual touching like side by side...i would disagree....because that is what mico/nano and contact coils are....wrapped with an even pressure and touching....
a big no for that would be making below 0.4 ohms for safety's sake....older atomizers also use the same concept

feel free to add more inputs....

What Michamer is saying is that if your coil windings are touching each other, you would have one big short (Near Zero resistance). You need to have every winding space tightly but not actually touching.

please do shed light to this matter a bit more...

because i do wrap my coils tight and touching...but they have resistance thou...

It's simple circuitry. Take a coil that you wound. Put your ohmmeter leads on each end lead and take a resistance reading. Press the coil together and read the ohmmeter. You should see a reading of near ZERO like reading. Your not getting the resistive path thru the length of the wire. I'm probably not explaining it right but trust me, you don't want your wraps to touch.

As an example I used 1 ohm to demonstrate touching windings.

Each winding that touches will be out of the picture so to speak. Meaning that winding will not heat/glow.
It is actually hard to touch windings when using thick Kanthal because they tend to spring open no matter how hard I tried to compress them. So for this example I used and insulated clap to force the windings to touch. You may think that you are using touching windings but actually there is an ever so small gap that you probably can't see.

If I am getting 0.6 ohms for a 1 ohm coil by touching, imagine starting at 0.5 ohms. You would be putting a dead short on your battery... OUCH!  freaked_out:

Thank you for shedding light on to the touching coils thing
it definitely helps us a lot in understanding things

The ohms will climb again as soon as you oxidize it the windings will isolate and again be back at  .ohms>< per distance length ohms measure...

The ohms climb back up - is that after I have blown my face off  :laughing2:
