« on: October 26, 2013, 10:30:19 AM »
I was thinking that all of us do this at some point. What do u use to get a perfect opening? The way I'm doing it isn't working the best for me and I'm looking for better ideas

I'm assuming you need to cut a rectangle for a display opening.

Place some masking tape over the enclosure and draw a rectangle.
Drill small holes at each of the 4 corners staying inside the lines.
Use a dremel with a cutting wheel and cut out the lines stopping before reaching the corners.
Finish the corners with a small flat file and also clean up the dremel line cuts with the file.

Or get this........ http://breaktru.com/smf/index.php/topic,918.msg9118.html#msg9118

That's what I've been doing. I always have trouble at the drill holes. The cut off wheel wants to go past the drill holes to cut completely.
I just wanted to see if others had some other tips on this

That tool looks badd a$$ but not something I can afford at the moment. LoL

I know what you mean about the wheel past the corners. I've learned my lesson after the first two cut-outs for displays.
Nice and easy, moderate/slow speed on the dremel, a steady hand and stop way before the corners. After stopping go back and cut a wee bit more at a time until the hole is met.
If you secure your box/enclosure, you can use two hands to hold the dremel for added steadiness and control.

I'll have to try the clamping the box method. I have an aluminum box I want to do a DNA20 in and I really want it to look like I knew what I was doing...lol

Also...  larger corner holes will help avoid the wheel hitting the outsides of the rectangle perimeter
