4050 aa box Switch
« on: November 07, 2013, 11:21:19 PM »

3 AA battery box
what switch will fit in this box?

Everything I find the body is too tall.

Is it the c&k switch?  If you have appropriate switch links handy where I can buy only one and not have a spending limit please post it..

Thanks
they have the best price but shipping kills the deal.  Ill go with radio shack and if it fails, easy enough to replace it,  until I am close enough in my travels to a store that sells c&k or better high dc amp switches.

I really want to make one but I read-up on the plastic; the aa box is made of Polypropylene and nothing really sticks to it you just get sort of a good bond.  It tosses that idea out the window.  would have been so easy..  Grrr I just had to follow the pack and make an aa box mod.

When you need to epoxy, sand down the area surrounding the part so it will hold better. I use a sanding discs and or abrasive drum with my Dremel. Abrasive attachments come in various shapes and sizes which is a good idea to have on hand.
See attached for some of the sizes that I use.......

Now ya tell me the trick,  I washed and alcohol'd the area as prep.  \Thanks/
Now my next one will be far more superior than the first  beta box. It has to be on the money as well, its your  2 cell aa box mod  It wont be as sweet tho, right now at 0 costs and only need to have patience for the capacitors that are due in.  Benefits of this forum,

I am gonna post up a vendor/OP thank you list as I post the build process.

Man you weren't kidding when you said blurry pictures. Well I can make out a hand and.... that's about it
What happened to the 4050 build in the O.P. It turned into a 8060?

Its second up, Im contemplating customize box 18650 or lipo batttery  or do the 2aa box with a 14500.
I am still waiting on 510 connectors and v meter to that mod, this mod I have all my parts except batteries and they should be here today.

Made from the parts for mods section.

Ti Mod Evercool 0860 buttoned up and awesome

I think it is an amazing vape, smooth.
Waiting on a v meter to go through it but no shorts all vape.

Voltages as soon as I get a meter.

It has a PwR c&k 5amp tactile epoxed in and a board mount trimmer  scrapped vivi nova 510 connector.

http://www.ck-components.com/news/2012/08/12/c-k-s-pwr-series-momentary-pushbutton-switch-delivers-250v-line-power-directly-as-a-main-switch-in-white-good-applications-en,76345.html

Really nice tactile switch the button push is very hard needs very stable mounting..

Thank you guys for the instructions;  as easier than harder but harder than easy..  Had to wire it like a pipe install lol..

The PwR tacts are cool, a little design intrusive but I figured out how to make a checkerboard and H bridge pattern brick style anchor it in into the battery wall using a hot screwdriver blade tip.  Its very secure and it looks like legos on the other battery bay divider thin plastic wall.   I hope the switch last a while -- there is no other option but to thrash and trash the unit if the switch fails..

I found them asked for samples,  thought I would try them -- when I recv'd them the stiffness of the switch was surprising.   They also need a deepset countersinking to flush mount but very well attractive with a centered wide mouth approach using the centered core as anchor.

MY final voltages using the Ti 08100 little brother the 0860:
 200trim, 220 1% set = 3.52-5.95v

Battery life 6.5 hours, 700 mah efest v2,  uber heavy vaping @ 4.4v.,  2.2ohm atty

The efest fall on their face after 6.7v
one vape in this zone and they drop to 5.5-7v if not charged and allowed to drop 6.3-4v
They hold steady at 7.5v and trickle down to 7.2v for 3 hours then slowly fade to 6.7v then heckuva fast drop zone
Not a bad vape time since the v2 batts tested mah rating is 550mah

Making  plans for an 18650 08100
After I make the 4050 boost mod

Your output range is good approximately like it should be.
Not bad for the 14500, 700mah (tested: 551mah at 3A)
I would pull the batteries once performance drops (6.7v) and throw them on the charger. According to the test review, a single cell drops drastically around 3.4v
The Lowest Discharge Voltage is 2.50V a cell but at that point performance sucks so pull them at 3.4v

See: Test Review

The 18650 w/ higher capacity would be the icing on the cake.

Thanks for test review post it  reads totally legit with my  results.

The 18650 will be a wood mod and I need to use a friends tools to make it right so its on the later later thought planning.
I figure between the 4050 and the 0860 I will have a full days worth of vaping usefulness out of 4 14500's.
The vape is so rewarding silky smooth and creamy vapor compared to  ego or my passthru
the 08100 needs bell and whistle as my final build..

Whats surprising is with-in  tolerance regulation comparing, the ego twist will similar vape @ohm with higher gauge kanthal.  32g(twist) vs 28ga(0860) @2.2 ohms 4.4v...
Battery life and being able to use 28ga is a win for the 8060..

A few clearer pictures my cam is not interested and prefers to take blurries.

Wired the 4050
Used 18 &20ga wiring, its a little smoother than the 8060 using avx tantalum caps 100uf/6.3v.  It eats batteries if using anything below 2 ohms it heats up pretty fast when chain vaping but when using a 2.2ohm and up the batt stays comfortable cool.  I think my solder joints are a little weak this is the prototype, it works fine but questionable wiring proximity without shrink sleeving.

3.57-6.1v
Solid with 2ohms up to 6v no drop in voltage its a beast.

Good work in the compact case.  :rockin smiley: It is like my .44 mini mod. I mentioned in the my thread about it performing quite well with 2.0 ohms or better. Anything lower is pushing it. The 14500 batteries are limited with what they can do. If you are using the efest batts with 700mah you won't get much run time. It's a decent mod for on the go stealth vaping but I went up with the battery size and box to a 18500 and a 18490 in a 9v battery box for my .44++ mini mod. The box dimensions for length and width are exactly the same as the AA box. Just a bit deeper in size. It's a big improvement over the 14500 setup.

What's up with your camera? Does it have auto focus and is it ON?
If it's auto focus, try bringing the lens close to the subject and pull the camera away until it looks clear in the view finder/screen before snapping the picture.
Also when you are taking pictures with low lighting, camera movement will cause a blurred photo. Try steading the camera while snapping in low lighting. Taking the picture outdoors with better lighting will help also

Thanks it was made in forum fashion, both units all samples and found on your forum.
This unit is much harder to package than the buck mod but all in all, simply awesome..

It really surprised me when I put a  1.7ohm  on it, it heated up the batteries fast, like 3 vapes fast and the battery dropped almost 1v using that ohm.  Just a few more ohms up and it didnt react that way.   I read your comments, it needs a capable battery,' now I know why firsthand..  Really a smooth vape almost effortless.  Worthy of  a really nice build..
To compare the two I would go with the booster with a huge battery..

My cam is old and I shake when i click lol..   The auto focus is me, its really darkroom and chemicals old..  My next builds I will take better pictures and  more of this two..

I totally understand now what you say break, about using this mod considering only the amps.

I just vaped 9 casual hours on one 700mah bat, then I was bored & turned the volume up a bit @2.10-2.2amps,  it went thru my battery like a hot butter knife and already melted butter because you left it by the stove and the pilot light..  Droppedoff the charger fresh in 2 hours to 2.56v and it was still firing like there was absolutely no issue with low battery.   Cut off is 2.95 spec sheet, its obviously not that on mine.  I so need some lipo cells now, I love this mod its perfect.   The 8060 is awesome as well but its brute force and power tactics hurt my tongue at same volts the 4050 does not.  Both units lite-up, ramp-up, so fast you can literally vape with a few millisec button push.

This blows mechs out the water you ask me.  The 8060 pushes 1ohm coils like nothing @4.7v.  Cannot wait to get a proper batt for the 4050 woot

Keep in mind, you don't want to take LiPo cells below 3.0 Volts.  It ~will~ damage them.  I know because I've done it.  They start puffing up when over-discharged so you know right away when one has been damaged.

I probably would not take the round cells below 2.8V either.  The only cell I've seen with a discharge spec below 2.8V actually listed in a data sheet is the Panasonic ICR cells at 2.7V.  All the rest are at least 2.8V and I probably would not take the IMR cells below 3.0V either.

The round cells probably start emitting gasses like the LiPos when over-discharged, but the difference is you can tell right away with the LiPos since they are only encased in foil.  The round cells have to build up a good amount of pressure before the safety vent pops.  You wouldn't be able to tell from the outside until that happens.

Defense battery employed:
I intend to build breaks low bat indicator and use a small audible alarm.  Im taking the whole class lol..
3-4kmah battery will make it much easier as well plugging the charger daily or every other day will be a battery tender.

batts:
I do indeed see a slight drop in performance its slight .03v~ sop,  noticed against its twins of a 4 purchase.
My batts have bad toxic gas lol..  I know the capped feeling maybe ill assist them lol  hopefully not but 4050 wow boost up with low c and watch the gas go..
Makes sense why  not mainstream but uber wow pcb for hobby..
