GE UVT020A0X3-SRZ anyone??
« on: November 22, 2013, 08:39:22 PM »
Saw this regulator in ECF, kinda small interesting to use in a 1 batt Mod??
Like to know how long the battery will last with this regulator, someone ideas??
Planning on mod with batt and Kanger Unitank mini next to each other, something like Innokin VTR.
Nice small and stealthy.

Never heard of it so I have to look it up at Mouser.

It's a step down converter similar to the OKR-T/10 requiring two cells in series (look at figure 41 in the part's data sheet).

Its $16 a unit compared to $10 a unit for the OKR-T/10.

The dimensions are 20 x 11.5mm compared to 16 x 10mm for an OKR-T/10.

Output voltage is more limited, only up to 5.5V where the OKR goes up to 6V.  Though, you can probably push it past 5.5V anyway.

It needs external capacitors where the OKR does not.

The one thing it has over the OKR is an output limit of 20 Amps which is huge, but only practical if you plan to run an extremely low resistance atomizer, like only a couple tenths of an Ohm.  In that case, voltages are so low you don't need a regulator, you can get that straight off a battery.  Though, a regulator does eliminate battery fade which is a big plus, at least in my book.

I've seen that converter before. Thanks Craig, I missed the figure 41 graph on Input vs Output. Yes I see it now. With a single battery it looks like a max output voltage of somewhere between 3.4v to 3.7v

Yes, the holy grail of switching regulators is a small inexpensive one that can run both above and below input voltage with high power outputs and high efficiency.  We'll probably never see one off the shelf though.  I'm working on one myself and it's not an easy thing to design even for an electrical engineer.  I actually did one before that like that, specifically a SEPIC converter.  It was small, could put out 30 Watts, and could run both above and below battery voltage.  I built it and it worked, but the efficiency was crap so I scrapped the design.

The DNA20 puts out 20 Watts, but I don't think people generally realize it's boost only.  It cheats to mislead the user into thinking it's running well below battery voltage when it's not, tsk tsk Evolv.  Nothing aginst boost only, my latest design is boost only, but mine always puts out what is selected and shown in the screen.  Evolv should be doing the same.  An instrument that lies to you is not a very trustworthy instrument.

I have the first run of the beta DNA20's and it starts at 6.0watts. It can also go to 3.1v. But the release version was bumped up so not to go below battery voltage.

Yes, if you set it on 6 Watts and put a lower resistance atomizer on there, it will still indicate a voltage lower than it's actually putting out.  It should have some kind of indication when it's not meeting the selected setting.  Otherwise it's misleading the user into thinking it's doing something it's not.

If you're saying the wattage scale is limited by minimal output voltage, than yes, I stand corrected.  They fixed it for release, I wasn't aware of that.

What kind of components are used in an EGO-Twist battery???
Maybe i could disassemble my Twist and Mod it into a side by side.
I think i'm going to go with an booster circuitry, mainly because i'm normally vaping at 4,2V at 2,5Ohm Unitank mini.
So a booster is enough for me i think, especially because my 1.8Ohm coils are ordered. So then i can lower my voltage to 3.6V or so.

There's better stuff to use than a Twist.  If you want something cheap and easy, you can get a Vamo head from Fasttech cheap and then harvest the board out of it for use in a mod.  That will give you much more functionality than the internals from a Twist.

You can get the whole Vamo for a couple dollars more;

As fare as the vamo board goes, you can find just the PCB around for 18 to 20 bucks.  I think kidney puncher sells them for $21.
