"injall" [DNA30 box mod] by deftones

"injall" front

First mod and I knew I wanted a metal box, no plastic (too fragile) no wood (too easy). And some IMR batts, no LiPo (too scary). Hammond's aluminium enclosure and some 18650's seemed to me like the most obvious choice, cheap and easily available.

There's already a lot of mods using 1590G (100mm) for single 18650, and  1590B (112mm) for dual 18650 mods. But I wanted the best of both. What I had in mind was a mix of the "Goliath" by Darren, the "Duke" by Goss and the "Hybrid" by Shan: use a smaller 1590G with dual 18650... I know it's not the smallest dual 18650 you can do: I saw a 1590P (80mm) with a DNA30 and USB charger and big firing button, tight fit but doable if you remove a screw and the batt holder.

Anyway, I decided to stick with the 1590G because I wanted to keep the 4 screws to make it magnetic, and add a challenging feature to it: flush mounted 510. Not almost, I do mean no gap at all. Metal on metal. And last but not least: a centered one to reduce the top heavy issue. Tricky.  :nerd:

Enough challenge for a first build with no experience or electronic skills, if you ask me.

I'm vaping on a DNA now!  :panic:

Thanks goes to Brandon from Evolv for answering customers questions and... well, also for making the chip.
Special thanks goes to mamu's great tutorials and pics, Breaktru's helpful forum and CraigHB's technical support, and to all the modders out there inspiring noobs like me.

Thank you guys, means a lot coming from modding experts like you.  ;bow;

mamu, I tell you what: you're dualright:yes"
First because of the DNA chip, best vape ever. I get why so many vapers talk about it now.
And second, because the mod itself is closer to what I had in mind than any available DNA based product (when they're available). You can make something that suits exactly your needs, and I guess that's the beauty of modding. I like it.

I took some pics during the build, let me try the attachment option here.

1. The drawing that started it before I ordered anything. I took the specs from the pdf sheets and made a 1:1 scale to see if I could make it to fit.
2. Squarification by sanding down the box. Notice the amount of metal dust on the upper right.
3. Before sanding. Crappy finish.
4. After sanding. Brushed finish.
5. Magnets and 510 epoxied.
6. Fuses legs soldered.
7. Wiring.
8. Making of the tiny window.

@Boonos
I wanted a DNA30 so why not start by building one? I was only scared by safety issues and Lipos. Modding experts on this forum helped me not to explode myself (those damn fuses gave me a headache though).

@Mandro
Thanks mate! And by the way, that's your 1590P I was talking about.

@Visus
This is my first DNA ever so when I got it, I wired it on the table and vaped on it as is. I usually vape on full mecs at low ohms, and I gotta say vape is fantastic, I love this chip.  ;hubba;
