2250 mAh LiPo powered mod, on board USB charging. I made the switch in this one out of a couple of strips of brass with a turned teak button.
It's mahogany with teak accents, and has a fatdaddy 510.

Sweet looking mod, Doobe!
I really like any mod that reduces the total height of the package.
Did you take any pics of the build process?

Cheers guys.
I've actually made a few of a similar design before.
Chronology:
My first go. The base is held on by magnets and comes off if it I put it in my pocket. It has a resistive touch switch and no teak top.
Next attempt I made a pair for out and about. One for me and one for my brother. Normally the 510 sits in the teak band, but for the one without I made a plug which I glued in place.
And some detail of the bottom during cnstruction. This is my brothers and features an ego board.
The underside of both when finished
#
Mine doesn't have on-board charging. I made a dock
A bigger version followed
And now this one.
They're all made in the same basic way:
Bore a hole in the mahogany,
cut a bit off the bottom and sandwich in some teak
cut the back off the block then chisel out the battery compartment
bore a hole in some more teak for the top
glue that on
drill out the switch hole and the 510.
put the switch in
put the batteries in
make the hole for the charger in the back, chamfer the edges and glue it in place
screw on the bottom
remove as much excess material as I dare
finish off wiring it up

Wow. A neat collection. I'm inspired to try a similar wood mod. I've got a Vamo board and a EVOD V3 board both in need of a home.
Thanks for the pic's, and info.

Go for it. You don't need exotic wood, I made a squonker out of beech and oak which came out nicely.
Get down a timber reclamation yard, you never know what you'll find
. The teak in this one is from a plank from my local reclamation yard, and I've got a couple of mahogany posts from there too. The teak in the first three mods used to be a lab bench that was rescued by my dad from a skip
.
I really enjoy making them. The first one was made with just hand tools, I didn't even have a pillar drill at the time. I still cut everything free hand with a saw. It's really satisfying to see something useful materialise out of a couple of old lumps of wood.

Have you ever worked with Basswood? It's not so much for looks, but it's light and fine grained. And I have some my Dad left to me, He used to make woodcraft trinkets from it, but most of his work got painted. Not sure how it would be on strength. But like I said, I already have it.

I've not, but imagine it would be absolutely fine to use and should be easy to work, which makes a huge difference for a beginner.
Mahogany is easy to work, the teak is tough as nails which is why I only use it sparingly and in the places which benefit from some extra strength.

I had some scraps left over from that one, just enough to build this
It's another one atty mod, that's an A7 mini dripper (13mm diameter so kind of small) holds about 6 drops
.
Mod dimensions 40x58x18mm. 750mAh LiPo. Charges on a dock.

Like I said that started as just a little chunk left over from the other mod. Just enough room in there for a single cell and a 13mm atty. The back wall of the atty cutout is about a mm thick at it's narrowest point. I used a little tact switch with the wooden button super-glued to the top of it
. The wiring in the bottom is incredibly tight, only just enough room for a mosfet, charge wires, switch wires and 510 wires all soldered with the battery in place and some studiously placed kapton tape to stop any shorts.

hello all, new here. Before I say anything is there a post count you need to fill before you can start a thread?
Doobedoobedo, those are some great looking mods! Ive just started learning about making mods and I'm leaning towards wooden box mods myself! I must ask, have you experimented with any ironwood? I recently saw some hybrid wood burl and resin blanks I wish I had picked up just for something like this. oh well, live and learn!

Thanks
. I think there's a 10 post minimum before you can start your own thread.
Ironwood is very hard to get in the UK. I tend to use reclaimed wood so I'm afraid I've never gotten hold of any Ironwood.
I would recommend that if you're just starting out woodworking that you use something which is relatively easy to work unless you're planning on milling it.
Stabilised wood, especially burls, seem all the rage at the moment, but you should treat it more like resin than wood for working.

I've done a good bit of woodworking and stuff so I'm not too worried about that, just been getting my parts list put together. There is a lot of good stuff on this forum though so it shouldn't take too much longer! I'm just worried about my mosfet choice.

If I have the space I'll use an IRLB3034PBF. If not much space then an IRLU3114ZPBF.

I have been reading some posts by craig and he seemed to think there are some better mosfets around then the 3034, but I could just be misunderstanding him. I am pretty good with solder so I don't have a problem with SMD parts if that's what it takes. Efficiency is king!

There may well be better out there now. When I run out I'll see what's about again

I see the IR part numbers a lot when people recommend MOSFETs. IR seems to concentrate more on the higher voltage stuff, that is transistors with a higher gate-source voltage tolerance and gate-source threshold voltage. For series cells it's not an issue, but parallel cells seem to be popular with mod builders. Parallel cells are better for an unregulated mod since it's easier to build atomizer coils for lower voltage and higher current. High voltage coils can be problematic due to space constraints and the parallel coils RDAs are designed for.
For a single cell or parallel cells there are better MOSFETs to use than what I've seen from IR. For series cells the issue is pretty moot since it comes down to on-state resistance only. For parallel cells you need low gate-source threshold as well as low on-state resistance and I haven't seen many parts from IR like that. Vishay and TI have a much bigger range of MOSFETs fitting those requirements.
