Suggestions for RTA for an OKR mod
« on: May 29, 2015, 11:24:45 PM »
I have the parts to build an OKR mod... well everything but the OKR and it's on the way.

I'd prefer to use a tank on it, and found that the Kanger sub tank, or mini allows to use stock coils as well as to build on them.... but then realized that they are only rated at 25-30 watts.

I saw a High Voltage tank, but that only comes with .2 ohm coils, and doesn't come with a rebuildable platform, and I'd have to keep the OKR turned down all of the way :-(

Is there a good RTA that would allow me to utilize the full capability of the OKR, up to it's 10 amp rating?

Thanks

Randy

Great suggestions I also am looking for perfect atty and those are priced great and easy build decks..
So tired of dripping, 2years of it,   finally lol..

I was thinking about  clr heads with the joytech ego one.  It like the perfect rebuildable evod, I still love my hacked evods, they just need a touch more airflow..

You do know your OKR t10 will do 100+watts without breaking a sweat?

Visus - I've tried to figure out how much I could get from it's 10A rating, and at it's max 6v it looks like .6 ohm coil for 60w.  The only way that I see to get to 100w would be going up to something like 17A... my batts s/b Ok with that but I don't know about the chip.  How far can you actually push an OKR?  (hmmm... sounds like another thread coming :-)

The High Voltage RTA looks good, but seems better for use over 100W.  I have already looked at the Lemo's, and the only one's that I found weren't rated for 60W.  The Freemax Starre looks promising, except that it isn't rebuildable and I read that it works best higher than 50w.

So, I'm still hunting for the "perfect" RTA for my OKR...  getting blurry eyed from so much Googling.

It has a ~18amp limit

Lol just keep firing it until it wont
it will not hurt the reg at all
it will sputter fire when capped
slap a .2ohm coil on start low,  turn it high,  and your eyes will bulge from how badarse these lil switchers are.

They lose efficiency above 80W and its calculated lifespan going above it's rating
so it will only last as long as your great great grandkid instead of your X10 grandchild lol.
They are rated for over 13million hours continuous use and we barely turn them on

The raptor 120w efficency sweet spot is at ~80w-120w
Its not a huge git like a booster mod but substantial loss in runtime comparing to a raptor etc.
One thing it will run longer than any booster mod at same/any wattages with same batts,
these hobby buck mods actually are the longest runners of any e cig to date.

Hey, appreciate your reply!  Just to make sure we're "on the same page", I'm taking about the OKR-T10 Chip rated for 10A.  I know that we can sometimes push things above their limit and be Ok  -- is the reg you're thinking of being ok at 18A?

The t10 is exactly what I am talking about.  Works better with 3s but still @2s will easily fire a ~100+watt load with good batts..
My 08100 and okr reg are @ 7v/9v with a 3s setup.  I have never vaped past 7v except for testing  which pulled I think 115 watts..  I made a post about it and quite a few others have the same results in their over 10A testing...  They are great! :yes"

It is rated 10A  for those numbers listed on the data sheet where an engineer can count on the reg to be when needed at that rate etc etc..,  it derates if used continuously above 10A we just pulse it,   it does a bit more than 10A safely...  :laughing2:  :yes"

Its on the data sheet that it does 19 amps

Holy Shitzu!  I didn't realize quite what a beast I was building :-)  Thanks - that opens up possibilities...

ps - by 2s and 3s, you mean 2 or 3 batts in series, right?

Yes, the nomenclature is xSxP.  So, for example 2S2P would be two sets of two series cells in parallel.  Typically the "P" is dropped for single sets of cells so it's just 1S, 2S, 3S, etc.  Though sometimes you might see something like 2S1P.

The input voltage tolerance for the OKR is 14V so a 3S supply is going to be ideal.  For higher outputs, higher input voltage is always better.

Thanks!  Trimmed the batt sled to fit the 1590 better and trimmed the tabs shorter... and am marking drill locations for the 510, pot and fire button while watching TV.  I've got parts all over the coffee table and my wife just walked by and shook her head.     I'm getting stoked about this now...

Thanks Craig ya explained that very well.

I used to think 2s was fine as long as it had covered the amperage even tho you always said 3s FTW on buck mods;  but no, @2s it drains the batts so fast, @ 3s all smooth no real heavy drain on the cells at same high wattages..

Yeah your gonna love your OKR mod they are durable.

I was lured into having a up to date mod and was clicking buy button but brain says have you had any issues with ur hobby mods -- nope-- I did not buy it..    I'll be that guy with power but no screen or fancy menu's.  Evercool/OKR for lifevape for Visus lol...
I am gonna buy David's or Jeff's or both pwm  mod as soon as I do lol..  Its a great board kit soldering project..  Jeff just added a screen readout that reads pwm to his board so there woohoo ill finally have a screen lol..

I have a voltmeter that I was thinking of adding.  In the schematics I've seen it's connected to the master on/off switch.  Wouldn't that risk draining the batts if you forget to turn the mod off?  Any way to connect to the fire switch?  Also, is it measuring voltage of the batteries, or current at the 510?   I would think that measuring the batts would be more important.

Thanks

vmeter--It should be switched to measure either 510 or the batts.

I find no need for the zener or the voltmeter (size constraints) the mod will cut out perfect @ 2.7v each batt  and with IMR batts like lg's it way above 2.5v max drain..  (iluvthosebatts)
Use pin 2 on a momentary C&K 4A switch good to go lol..
I wired mine up to Breaks original OKR diagram,  its simple and works like a charm.  Not one single issue with the direct off batt switch either.  If your going off Mamu's diagram remember Mamu is commercial modder moreso(retired now but ya) so she makes them work redundantly but it will do it on its own very well..  I get two and half days on HE4's til cutoff vaping 30-70watts,  I almost never not have it in my hand lol...

The vmeter ya use it for the first week/month or so then hardly ever use it again, you wont leave it on..  Having a pot makes for quickest voltage changes and you get to know where its at so no need and the batts will last a good long time so ya just take em out and charge before even close to empty -- unless ur vaping over 80watts all the time , that'll drain em quick..

For my vmeter I made breaks vmeter medicine tube thingy.
BTW if you build it right gauge wire, good solder joins,  it won't vdrop on ya after ~4.3v.. Firing 80 watts 0v drop  I think maybe more watts in this test,  gotta look at my post about it but ya they are beast regs..(perfection; provari pfft lol)

The absolute BEST high wattage rta is the SMOK TFV4. It comes with a single coil rta deck a dual coil is available but it also has the BEST replacement coils as well
The full kit comes with a triple and quad coil.
The quad is rated to 160w and it blows like a dripper.. itsy favorite arty!.
