Skullz copper mod
« on: November 16, 2011, 06:14:47 PM »
Hello all, I am working on a new copper mod and I want to make it a VV With a touch switch. I Want to use the madvaps board that comes with this chip http://www.madvapes.com/assets/images/NCP630-D.pdf I don't think the chip has mosfet capabilities so I want to use this mosfet chip. http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/IRL3103PBF/IRL3103PBF-ND/811901
Can I use this mosfet chip with the mad vaps board? Is this mosfet chip the correct chip? I want to make this into a pass through using a 3 amp wall to usb adaptor. Here a some pics of the mod.

Very nice work Lear.

Using a metal tube is a problem with N-Channel Mosfet such as the one you show in the link because ALL of your negative connections have to break through the mosfet.
Unless...... you turn your battery backwards and put the positive on the bottom cap spring. This means the outer tube and battery/atty connectors outside casing will be positive and the center pin of the battery/atty connector will be negative.
The mosfet will then have to break the regulator negative only. Drain (D) to regualtor (-) and Source (S) to battery (-).

IF this is a single cell:
The mosfet that you show has a Vgs(th) voltage of 1v so it will work with a Single cell mod. The Rds ON is 12mOhm which is good (low).

FOR TWO cells, most of us are using a Vgs(th) of around 4v w/ as low as you can get Rds ON resistance.

I would have gone w/ a P-Channel so you wouldn't have to reverse the battery and just break the positive from the battery to (+) of the regulator. Remember 4v Vgs(th) for two cells.

Anyone here see anything I may have missed?

Hmmm. I was going to make this mod a pass through.  I was going to use a wall adapter and  use a usb cable  to connect to it. Would I still have to go out of my way to make it work?  Anyways, I am going to order p-channel mosfets if that will make life easier.  What should I look for when ordering P-Channel mosfets? I get lost on all the part numbers  :crying:

In the future I do plan on making a 14500 or 18650 mod  as well as a two cell mod using 16340 batteries. Thanks again Breaktru.... I linked your site on my page, hope you don't mind. http://www.learfx.com/
