Help with the spring for the plain 3.7v mod

Hi everyone. In the basic design for the 3.7v mod by Breaktru, the spring just wobbles around in the bottom cap. So here's the question: What is a good way to secure the spring down that won't affect the negative connection?

I've thought about solder, but don't think it would hold up in the long run. What about JB Weld in a few places?

Anyone have any ideas?

I solder mine.  I grind the bottom of the spring down flat. Then put a little flux on it and solder it in place. I've never had one come loose to this day.

Did you drill a hole in the bottom of the bottom cap? I'm not sure how relevant it is with some batteries, hopefully some of the other modders with more electrical knowledge could give a clear answer.

solder will be great as long as you sweat it with a torch

Some find it necessary to solder (sweat) in the spring but I do not.  If you allowed for proper spring compression, the spring does not "wobble" around. Just make sure your spring contact points and the inside of the cap is clean and shiny by occasionally hitting it with a "scotch" pad. Be careful using steel wool as the steel particles can cause shorting if it falls into the tube.
Do NOT epoxy/glue the spring in. The epoxy/glue most likely will cause poor contact of the spring to the cap.

Thanks for all the great input. and yes, I have three small holes in the bottom cap for venting. But I can try and make sure I don't cover them up. I guess if I did I could re-drill them if it doesn't hurt the solder. Breaktru, the spring only wobbles around when I take the cap off. When I ordered springs from MV, I got the large ones and they work pretty good. Also thanks for the heads up about epoxy, glue, and steel wool. I have plenty of "scotch pads" and will do that too.

Jumper, sweet solder it the spring if you want the best low res connection I have made hundreds of mods so I say with much confidence and little arrogance but much wish well helpfulness , damn that is like poetry,  that's really the way to go but do as you like and if you do it long enough and with many variations you too will find out what is best for you

Thanks fsors, I know you've made many mods so I really trust what you and Breaktru say. The voice of experience means a lot and I bow to your expertise. Will try to get around to soldering the the spring today and will let you know how things go.

I just soldered the two I made (my original still has the loose spring) by setting the cap on the stovetop like a tiny copper pot.  Once it heat up enough, I put the spring in with hemostats and hit it with solder.  Quick and easy.  The battery springs from MadVapes has a perfect turn in the bottom for holding solder.

Thanks Phestr, that's where I got my springs from. I did solder the spring on my first mini shortly before the meltdown. I worked good for a while anyway. That's funny about the stove. I need some hemostats too. I used the torch the first time and it worked pretty well. The hard part for me was getting the spring to stay still.... just remembered, I have some small clamps that I use and I could use that for the spring. On one of them I took the plastic ends off so it's just metal. that would be good enough to hold the spring I think.

I made a new mini yesterday, but the length was too short. I was trying to use leftover pipe before I started using the new pipe I bought yesterday. It almost made it, lol.

You then set the solder ring on the bottom of the cap, put a little flux on the bottom of the spring, set the spring in the bottom of the copper cap, center the spring in the cap and heat it up until the solder melts........ Tits.
