advise please on first mod

For my first mod i'm thinking of using my old ego connector with Electronics. What are the advantages of using the ego Electronics. Think of making simpel boxmod for the first mod, only one 18650, fire button, and ego connector. Will the old ego Electronics help in soms kind or will it be of no use?

I think the only thing in the old original eGo electronics is it has circuitry for use of the low current button which is illuminated and charging thru the 510 connector. It's not Variable controlled.

It wouldn't be for a variabele mod. Only a simpele side by side box mod

The electronics may not handle a high current demand. Maybe someone who has used one can verify this.

The eGo boards use a very small MOSFET which is the component that switches atomizer current.  It's an SOT23 package to be specific.  This is a small package with limited thermal conductivity.  I've done torture tests on old eGo boards to find the minimum resistance they can handle and it's about 1.4 Ohms.  You might be able to milk one for 1.2 Ohms, but that's getting very close to MOSFET failure territory.

Also, if you're not aware, the proper eGos provide a PWM output with an RMS voltage of about 3.4V.  So, you won't get much power out of them unless you get under 1.5 Ohms.  They're good for about 9 Watts at the very maximum.  That's fine for a lot of vapers, my wife is perfectly happy using an eGo with a 1.5 Ohm atomizer.

Well, it depends.  If you have no desire to vape with more than 9 Watts, an eGo board will serve you well.  They do eliminate battery fade which is big feature in my book.  That's the reason for the PWM output.  They regulate to minimum battery voltage so the device will vape the same whether the battery is fully charged or running low. 

You will get battery fade with a battery wired directly to the atomizer.  Since power output is proportion to the square of voltage, small changes in voltage make big changes in heat production and thereby atomizer performance.  For some people (like me), battery fade is an impassable problem.  Others are not bothered in the least by it.
